From Press Release

Seniors Sarah Malone and Shannon Zoldy (Mount St. Joseph), and junior Laura Rowan (Strath Haven) were selected as captains for the 2015 Lafayette women’s lacrosse team, head coach Alison Fisher announced Monday.

Malone, a 5-10 senior midfielder from Glen Ridge, N.J., is poised for a breakout final campaign on College Hill after appearing in just four games in her career for the Maroon and White. Malone is a two-time selection to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and led the team a year ago with a 4.00 spring GPA.

“Sarah had a really good fall season and has settled into a role on this team where she can excel,” Fisher said. “She has grown as both a player and a leader over the past three and a half years and this group responds well to her straight-forward leadership style.”

Zoldy returns for the Leopards after making six starts in 10 appearances a year ago. The senior defender from Bedminster, Pa. tallied two ground balls and a draw control last season. Zoldy also picked up Patriot League Academic Honor Roll laurels for the second straight season with a 3.58 GPA in the spring.

“Shannon has always had a solid understanding of the core values of Lafayette Lacrosse and the vision that we have for the program,” Fisher added. “She has selflessly filled any role we have asked of her and she sets a very good example for her teammates.”

Finally, Rowan is the lone junior captain for the Leopards, anchoring a defensive unit that allowed 187 goals and caused 165 turnovers in the 2014 campaign. Hailing from Rose Valley, Pa., Rowan appeared in 17 games for Lafayette for the second straight season, starting every contest a year ago. She picked up 15 ground balls, won 10 draw controls and caused nine turnovers in her sophomore season, while also picking up her first Patriot League Academic Honor Roll selection with a 3.25 spring GPA.

“Laura is the first junior to be named Captain during my time here at Lafayette,” said Fisher. “She’s proven herself as a solid leader on and off the field and earned the respect of both her teammates and her coaches. Her main responsibility this spring will be to lead our defensive unit.”

Malone, Rowan, Zoldy and the Leopards open their 2015 season on Feb. 14 when they travel to West Long Branch, N.J. to take on Monmouth at 1 p.m. Lafayette’s home opener is set for Feb. 17 against Delaware at 7 p.m. and Patriot League play is slated to begin on March 7 when Navy comes to College Hill for a 1 p.m. contest.
