Women’s lacrosse: Philadelphia University rolls past Chestnut Hill

Junior attacks Lauren Hartman (Sewell, N.J./Our Lady of Mercy) and Allison Brian (Hempfield) combined to record 16 points in Philadelphia University women’s lacrosse’s 20-7 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) victory over visiting Chestnut Hill Friday afternoon on Ravenhill Field.

Philadelphia—sixth in the NCAA Division II East Region Rankings—moves its winning streak to 13 as it improves to 13-1 overall and 10-0 in the CACC. The Rams wrapped up their home schedule with a 7-1 record, including wins in the final seven matches.

Chestnut Hill is now 3-13 overall and 3-7 against the conference.

Hartman led the way with a match-high nine points (three goals and a career-high six assists), while Brian racked up a career-best seven points with six goals and one assist.

Senior attack Emily Ray posted her second hat-trick of the season and moved within 12 points of reaching 200 in her career.

Junior attack Elizabeth Marrosu (Flemington, N.J./Immaculata) and sophomore Elizabeth Seitzinger (Parkland) recorded two goals and one assist each.

Senior midfielder Libby Nichols had one goal and one assist, while sophomore attack Caroline Noebels, freshman defender Isabella DiGnazio, and grad student midfielder Kristen Blye (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) scored once.

Nichols added five draw controls, four ground balls, and two caused turnovers. DiGnazio posted four draw controls and two ground balls.

Brian and junior defender Allison Cassidy recorded four ground balls.

In goal, junior Kristen Moran stopped five of the eight shots on goal she faced in the first 43:28 to earn her 11th win (11-1). Freshman Maria Matteis recorded two saves over the duration of the match.

Alicia Herbert led the Griffins (3-13, 3-7) with two goals, two ground balls, and two caused turnovers. Lea Sanders, Kelly Campbell, Kelsey Moran, Gabrielle Balara, and KarlaAne Klouda added one goal.

Katie Joe Lang made 10 saves in net.

Hartman played a major role to helping the Rams jump out to a 7-0 lead in the opening 8:37 as she scored twice and assisted on four other goals.

After the teams swapped three goals each over a 13:20 span, Brian, Ray, and Nichols all scored to close out the half and give the Rams a 12-3 lead at the break.

Philadelphia started the second half the same way it started the first, with seven straight goals to extend its lead to 19-3.

Philadelphia heads to Mercy for a non-conference match on Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m.
