From Press Release

Georgian Court University and Philadelphia University are the favorites in the 2014 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women’s Lacrosse Preseason Poll as voted on by the conference coaches and announced today by Commissioner Dan Mara.

Georgian Court (41 points) edged out Dominican College (40) for top honors in the North Division by one vote on the strength of one additional first place vote. The South Division tally was also close between first and second place as Philadelphia (32 points, 6 first place) out distanced Holy Family University (28, 3 first place) by just four points.

The coaches have predicted that the final four from the 2013 CACC women’s lacrosse tournament will advance to this year’s edition of the semifinals. One year ago, both semifinals were decided by one goal, highlighted by an epic battle between Georgian Court and Holy Family that lasted three overtimes with the Tigers emerging victorious, 15-14. The Tigers pulled off the repeat by outscoring Philadelphia 12-10 in the championship.

Georgian Court’s Kerry O’Donnell, the 2013 CACC Coach of the Year will welcome back All-CACC First Team selection Stephanie Gallo and second team goalkeeper Amanda Cathcart. Dominican will return three All-CACC First Team members in Allison Smithwick, Christina Brennan and Olivia Antonopoulos. Philadelphia will be paced by 2013 CACC Rookie of the Year Liz Mower (Souderton) and first team selections Libby Nichols and Melissa Styer.

Holy Family will be led by first team goalkeeper Grace Deckert and second team selections Brianna Lancetta (Bishop Eustace), Caitlin Carrezola (Neshamny) and Marissa Lawson.

Post University (25 points), Nyack College (18) and Caldwell College (11) round out the North Division poll while Wilmington University (19) and Chestnut Hill College (11) complete the South Division survey.

The CACC regular season schedule will commence on Wednesday, March 4 when Wilmington visits Georgian Court. The top two teams from each division in the regular season standings will advance to the CACC Women’s Lacrosse Final Four hosted by Chestnut Hill on April 26-27.
