Monday’s boys’ roundup: La Salle, St. Joe’s Prep advance to Catholic League finals; Washington, Northeast to meet for Public title

La Salle and St. Joseph’s Prep advanced to the Catholic League boys’ lacrosse championship game with easy victories Monday in the semifinals at Neumann University.

Top-seeded La Salle toppled Archbishop Ryan, 17-4, while second-seeded St. Joe’s Prep downed Archbishop Wood, 11-4.

The Explorers (12-7) and Hawks (14-5) will meet for the crown Wednesday at Neumann at 6 p.m.

St. Joe’s led, 5-3, at halftime, but broke it open with three unanswered goals in the third period. Pat Walsh had two goals and an assist and Kevin Stump, Pete Gayhardt and Chase Young each scored twice. Mike Marchese posted 12 saves

For Wood, Stephen Kajmo scored twice and Brett Katzianer was a standout with 23 saves.

For La Salle, Brett Baskin scored four goals and Aidan Kerrigan had three goals and two assists which Zach Drake added two goals and an assist and Trent Melsheimer had two goals.

Public League Semifinals
Washington 11, Mastery 7
Northeast 6, Frankford 4

Washington outscored Mastery 5-2 in the second half to break open a tight game and draw a championship date Wednesday with Northeast – a 6-4 winner over Frankford – at Northeast High Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. Both Washington and Northeast are 13-3 and tied for the regular-season title after splitting their two games.

Connor Mcnonagle had five goals and three assists for Washington and Adrian Toro had three goals and an assist while Robert Franklin posted nine saves.

Xavier Taylor had three goals and an assist and Amir Fluellen two goals for Mastery
