A.J. Witherell, Michael Drake, Sam Fink, Mark McGarry and Terrance Logue each scored twice Tuesday as three-time defending state champion and host Salesiaum School defeated Delaware Military Academy, 15-1, in the first round of the Delaware state tournament.
Salesianum is 14-1. Delaware Military Academy closes at 8-8.
Caesar Rodney 10, Polytech 9
Two goals each by Austin Hayward, Hunter Schaefer and Shawn McLeish paced the 4th seed Riders of Caesar Rodney (12-4) to a tight win over the #13th seed Panthers of Polytech (8-8). The Panthers were led in scoring by Ian Lineweaver with four goals and Kyle Hyde with two.
St. Mark’s 22, Indian River 2
Three goals each by James Magnani, James Hamory and Dalton Ziemba and Tyler Kreisher, and two by Rhett Schweizer, Brandon Papa and Tyler Kreisher paced the 3rd seed Spartans of St. Marks (9-6) to an easy win over the 14th seed Indians of Indian River (9-7).
Middletown 10, Delmar 7
Six goals by Connor Swalm and three goals by Adam Brown paced the 11th seed Cavaliers of Middletown to a win over the 6th seed Wildcats of Delmar. For the Wildcats (11-4), Larry Gilmore led with four goals.
Girls
Charter School 15, Archmere 11
The #6 seed Lady Force of Charter School of Wilmington (15-2), behind the Bread and Butter performances of Morgan “Bread” Lamey’s five goals and three goals by Alexandria “Butter” Mash, defeated the 2nd seed Lady Auks of Archmere (14-3). For the Lady Auks, seniors Katelyn Payne and Amanda Olson each led with five goals.
Cape Henlopen 23, Ursuline 3
Top seed and five-time defending state champion Lady Vikings of Cape Henlopen (12-5), behind the five-goal performance by Jordan Brown, four by Kat Judge, three each by Allie Yeager, Sarah Tappan and Lexi Woodruff, and two by Tess Bernheimer defeated the 5th seeded Lady Raiders of Ursuline Academy (11-5).
