Senior Stephanie McNesby (Archbishop Ryan) became the Tigers’ all-time leading scorer after totaling four points as the Holy Family University women’s lacrosse team defeated visiting Georgian Court University by the score of 18-12 in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) contest Saturday afternoon at Tiger Field.
Holy Family, winners of three straight, improve to 7-4 overall and 4-1 in conference play, while Georgian Court falls to 4-4-1 overall and 4-1 in the CACC. The win marked the Tigers fourth straight victory over the Lions as both teams were facing one another for the first time since last year’s CACC Championship Final. Georgian Court won the first seven meetings in the all-time series.
McNesby tallied a pair of goals and assists to finish with four points as she passed former standout and teammate Gina Mansi (Washington Twp., 2009-2012) for the program’s all-time points record. With her assist on sophomore Brianna Lancetta (Bishop Eustace)’s goal at the 11:06 mark of the second half, McNesby recorded career point 185 passing Mansi on the all-time list. Mansi recorded 184 points during her four-year career. McNesby also recorded a game-high eight draws.
Lancetta, along with junior Brigit LaRose (Holy Cross), led the Tigers with four goals in the victory. Senior Maria Mattioli (Nazareth) and freshman Paige Settar (Clearview Regional) each added three goals apiece. Senior Jessica Maloney (Archbishop Ryan) came through with a team-high six ground balls and two caused turnovers.
West Chester 19, Mercyhurst 5
Lauren Glassey (Henderson), Tori Dugan (Bayard Rustin) and Hannah Cowan all registered a hat trick as the second-ranked Rams easily handled No. 14 Mercyhurst in a PSAC women’s contest.
West Chester (8-0, 5-0 PSAC) completed a weekend sweep of the Erie, Pa., schools with the win over Mercyhurst (9-2, 4-1). The Golden Rams topped Gannon, 17-5, on Friday. For the second straight day, West Chester held its opponent to just a single goal in the first 30 minutes of play.
Philadelphia Univ. 16, Post 7
Freshman attack Liz Mower (Souderton Area) scored six times as the Rams knocked off visiting Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference opponent Post, 16-7, on Senior Day.
The win improves the Rams’ overall record to 8-4 and keeps the team perfect in CACC play with a 6-0 mark. Post drops to 1-9 overall and 1-4 in the conference.
Division III
Haverford 11, Dickinson 10
Diana Perry scored her fifth goal of the contest with one second left on the clock to help the visiting Fords (9-3, 3-1) edged Dickinson in a tightly-contested Centennial Conference battle.
Tallying her collegiate-high fifth ground ball of the day in the closing seconds of the game, freshman Amanda Fleming (Penn Charter) began the successful clear attempt that led to the game-winning opportunity by Perry. Fouled by the Red Devils’ Kelly Haglund with one second remaining in regulation, Perry received her third free position attempt of the contest. Perry made the most of the chance to be the difference maker as she sent her 38th of the season past Dickinson’s Grace Morelli.
Neumann 15, Gwynedd Mercy 7
The Knights extended their win streak to six games after defeating Gwynedd-Mercy in the Colonial States Athletic Conference.
Meghan Garsey scored five goals and added two assist to lead the Knights. Chrissy Hughes (Springfield-Delco) also came up big as she made 14 saves in the game.
Danae Perrymond (Pottstown) had two goals for Gwynedd Mercy.
Cabrini 19, Marywood 5
The Cavaliers evened their record at 5-5 with an easy win over the visiting Pacers. The Cavs’ fifth consecutive victory also improved the Blue and White to 4-0 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. The Cavaliers have outscored their opponents 86-25 during their current five game win streak.
Sophomore Lacie Doubet (Ridley) led the Cavaliers with a season high seven points on four goals and three assists. Freshman Katie Lasater (Great Valley) matched Doubet’s four goals, while fellow rookie Nathalie Basunga (Springfield-Delco) added three goals and three helpers. Sophomore Melissa Scanzano (Haverford High) tallied her fourth hat trick of the season.
