From Press Release

The Philadelphia Wings of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) have signed defensemen Pat Heim (Conestoga) and Matt Stefurak, transition player David Brock, and rookie goaltender Steve Fryer, pending league approval, to one-year contracts for the 2012 season.

Heim signed with the Wings in 2007 after playing at Penn State University and has played four seasons with the team. In his career Heim has scored 10 goals, tallied 24 assists and recovered 51 loose balls from his defensive post in just 49 games played.

Stefurak played four seasons at the University of Delaware as one of the team’s top defenders. He was drafted by the Wings in the fifth round and was also selected by the Long Island Lizards in the 2011 MLL Draft.

Brock enters his second season with the Wings after being acquired via trade from the Boston Blazers during the 2011 NLL season. Brock was drafted seventh overall by the Blazers in the 2010 entry draft after completing his college career at Albany University. He recovered 41 loose balls in 11 games played as a member of the Wings.

“There is an opportunity this year to tighten up our defensive end, and get better on face-offs,” said Wings Defensive Coordinator Blane Harrison. “We will leverage Pat and David’s experience and athleticism to help us be one of the better defensive teams in the league.”

In addition to resigning two Wings veterans, the team has also agreed to contracts with its remaining unsigned rookies from the 2011 NLL Entry draft. Fryer joins the Wings from Brampton, Ontario as the team’s fourth round draft pick and will bolster the team’s depth at goaltender.

“I’m looking forward to seeing our draft picks in camp,” said Harrison. “Steve will add depth to our goalie position as he makes the transition to the NLL style of play, which helps us in the long haul. Matt, is a big, athletic defender that will develop into an outstanding indoor player.”

The Wings have also announced that forward Dean Hill has been released from the team.

The Philadelphia Wings will open the 2012 season against the Rochester Knighthawks at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 7 p.m.
