Berkshire School (Mass.) rising senior goalie Mimi Connell, a Paoli native, has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at Lafayette College.

Berkshire School (Mass.) rising senior goalie Mimi Connell (Paoli) has committed to Lafayette

Connell, who plays club lacrosse for the Phantastix, was a Western New England Prep all-star pick who competed in the National Tournament in 2010. She is a two-year starter who has been named a co-captain for 2011 and also plays field hockey and squash.

Connell, a member of the High Honor Roll who won the Team Spirit award in lacrosse, plans to major in Psychology.

“First and foremost, Lafayette was the best fit athletically and academically,” she said. “I wanted a smaller school and to play at the Division I level.

“I loved the campus and coach (Alison) Fisher.”

Fisher is a Hatboro-Horsham graduate who coaches in the Philly-based Ultimate Goal club program.

At Berkshire, Connell’s squad went 7-7 against tough competition in 2010.

“The team wa really young and we only had five seniors,” she said. “Our schedule was tough, but our coach, Jean Maher, knew how to connect and get us motivated.

“She has decided to resign, but she is an amazing coach. Next year we’re hoping to as well or better.”
