Margaret Corzel collected five goals and three assists and Emily Corcoran had five goals and one assist to lead host Merion Mercy to an 18-6 victory over Sacred Heart today in the semifinals of the Athletic Association of Catholic Academies (AACA).
The win advances the defending champion Bears (13-4) into the AACA finals against Villa Maria Academy, a 14-13 winner over Mount St. Joseph in overtime. The title game will be played Thursday at 6 p.m. at St. Joseph’s University.
Casey Rooney added three goals and three assists while Bonnie McShane and Madison Connor each had a goal and an assist and Julianne D’Orazio added one goal. Goalie Caili Guilday posted six saves.
Sarah Hospodar was a standout on the draws for Merion Mercy, helping it win 19 out of 24 draw controls. Leading the defense was Monica O’Hara with three caused turnovers and five ground ball pickups. Molly Mullen and Colleen McGonigal were also strong on defense.
Stephanie Finley led Sacred Heart (8-8) with three goals and two assists and Eileen Dombrowski added three goals Amy Robinson was strong in the goal with 13 saves.
North Penn 11, Souderton 10, OT
Stacey Pellechia scored the game-winner with 59 seconds left in overtime to give the Maidens the clutch victory, clinching at least a tie for the Suburban One Continental Conference championship.
Halie Lear led North Penn (14-1, 8-0) with three goals while Pellechia, Rachel Shaw and Dani Horn added two each as the Maidens rallied from a late, 10-8 deficit. Pellechia had also sent it into overtime with 30 seconds to play.
Upper Dublin 14, Plymouth Whitemarsh 3
Kelly Cross collected four goals and three assists and Amy Cross had three goals and five assists for the Cards (15-0, 12-0), who clinched at least a tie for the Suburban One American Conference championship.
Mollie Getzfred had two goals for PW.
Hatboro-Horsham 16, Pennridge 14
Nicole Beck, Cortnee Daley and Sarah Tustin led the Hatters with three goals each while Lauren Purvis and Kelly McCartin each tallied a pair.
Julia Colyar had four goals for the Rams, and Jen Moyer added three goals. Jess Roy and Dayna Erdman both had two goals
Downingtown East 15, Abington 9
Emily Solenberger fired in eight goals as the Cougars downed the Ghosts in non-league action. Abington got five goals and one assist from Courtney Cox
Episcopal Academy 15, WC East 5
Taylor Trimble had four goals and an assist while LibbyEyre added two goals and two assists to lead EA to the non-league win.
Allison Tizio led East with three goals.
Notre Dame 19, Agnes Irwin 10
Kristen Bandos had five goals and Katie Blumenthal scored four while Katie Hagen added three to lead the Irish (11-4, 7-1) to an Inter-Ac League win.
Chloe Chou led AIS with three goals.
Archbishop Wood 14, Conwell-Egan 3
Caitlyn McCartney collected four goals and three assists and Alyssa Andress added three goals to lead the Vikings (13-3, 9-1) to the Catholic League win.
Jenkintown 6, Neshaminy 5, OT
Sarah Ross had the game-winner in OT while Sarah Flood and Audrey Asher each scored twice for the Drakes in the non-league win. Jess Brogan added 10 saves.
Cori Ducco and Alex Charen each scored twice for the Falcons.
