Easton senior midfielder Ryan Scott has signed a National Letter of Intent to play Division I lacrosse at Rutgers University.
Scott collected 39 goals and 11 assists last year, helping the Red Rovers finish 14-7 
and reach the finals of the Lehigh Valley Conference and District 11 tournaments. Scott also was a member of the Lehigh Valley team that claimed its first goal medal at the Keystone State Games this summer.
Scott’s highlight of the scholastic season was tallying three goals, including the game-winner, as Easton edged Parkland, 10-9, in the Lehigh Valley Conference semifinals. He also scored five goals in a 13-7 triumph over Central Bucks South on April 22.
Scott, who is Vice President of his class and also letters in indoor track and field, plans to major in Business and further his education in law school.
“I chose Rutgers because I could only see myself at a larger institution,” he said. “The great coaching staff and facilities also made choosing the Scarlet Knight lacrosse program easier. I also liked the more urban campus that is just far enough from home. The competition of the Big East Conference also made Rutgers an attractive pick.”
Scott, who was selected as an All-Star at the Lars Tiffany 300 Camp at Brown last summer, is confident the Rovers can challenge for the Lehigh Valley Conference and District 11 championships. He noted that Easton, which posted a big victory over Ches-Mont League power Unionville last year, has continually improved since the program was launched when his class came in as freshmen.
Another senior, midfielder Chris Varela, has signed a Letter of Intent with Division II power New York Institute of Technology.
“The spring of my fifth grade year was the beginning of my township’s U-13 lacrosse team and my introduction to the sport,” he said. “My class will be the first group of seniors to come up from the start of that program.
“For the 2010 season, we’re striving for nothing less than league and district championships,” he added. “We are returning a bulk of our team for the upcoming season including my fellow middie, Chris Varela who is NYIT-bound.”
Scott understands he will be counted on this year to be a catalyst for the offense.
“My role for this year offensively will probably be to stir things up off of the dodge and to stay dangerous,” he said. “I worked extremely hard to get to that signing day. There is a lot if talent in the Valley that often gets overlooked. I hope that I represent Easton well and force recruiters to start looking deeper for their recruits; not just to the hotbeds.”
