Freshman midfielder Reed Phillips (Downingtown East) earned National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) First-Team All-American honors this year while helping Essex Community College of Baltimore County (Md.) to the semifinals of the NJCAA National Championships.
Phillips collected 41 goals and 31 assists and led the team in groundballs while earning NJCAA Region XX Offensive Player of the Year and helping the Knights win the Region XX championship with a 12-7 triumph over Anne Arundel. That advanced Essex, ranked second in the nation, into the National Juco tournament in Herkimer, N.Y.
Essex, which finished 13-4, fell to Nassau Community College (N.Y.), 13-7 in the national semifinals.
Phillips played on two Suburban League championship squads at Downingtown East and helped the Cougars win the 2007 Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association and Keystone Cup championshps. He was an All-Eastern Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association and Second-Team All-Phillylacrosse.com selection.
