Manheim Township senior goalie Shannon Nee has made a verbal commitment to play Division i lacrosse at the University of Connecticut.

Shannon Nee Log:

Shannon Nee

High School:
Manheim Township
Graduation Year: 2012
Position: Goalie
College Choice: UConn
Club Affiliation: X-Treme 2012

Major Lacrosse Honors: All Lancaster-League League and All-Section after freshman, sophomore and junior years (2009-2011). L-L League MVP Goalie for 2011. Made WDNT Central PA team during her sophomore and junior years (2010-2011). Was named an Honorable All-American for 2011. Also made the 2011 Philly Under Armour team.

Academic Honors: Honor roll every semester. Was selected to represent Manheim Township High School in the Lancaster Chamber of Commerce mentoring program. Also is the Secretary in the school club SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions).

What will you major in/study? Plans on majoring in elementary education, but may consider sports careers.

Why did you choose this school? “No other school I looked at met the same standards of education that UConn did for me. My visit on campus was great! I was able to see what a practice was like, which I had never gotten to do before.

“I realized how much the team pushed each other in the weight room and during practices and it showed how close-knit they were which was a huge influence on me. Another thing that made me really chose this school was that the team kept trying to learn more about me, instead of my other visits when I was trying to make small talk. When I went on a tour with the girls, that’s when I realized that UConn was my top choice.”

What is your high school team’s outlook for next year?
“The team goals this year are similar to the ones we had last year. We definitely want to continue to keep our L-L League and District 3 winning streaks going. We are going to make sure we take every game one at a time and make sure we play our best at all times. The other goal is to do well in the state tournament. Last year, we lost in the first round in OT. This year, we’d like to improve upon that.”
