A dominant 6-0 third-quarter surge powered Ursinus to a 15-7 victory over Neumann University on Wednesday afternoon at Patterson Field.
The Bears improved to 2-0, while the Knights dropped to 0-2.
Senior Ashley Noto (Clearview Regional-NJ)fueled the offensive effort with a career-high six goals and two assists for eight points, marking her highest single-game total since a nine-point performance in March 2024. First-year Devin Buggy (Springfield-Delco)added three goals, while junior Dana DeSiato (Woodstown-NJ) added two goals and three assists and senior Skyler Bogdan collected four assists and a goal for Ursinus.
For Neumann (0-2), Krista Catka (Ridley) had four goals and three assists with five draw controls. Alena Geibler (Sun Valley) had two goals, three draw controls, and three caused turnovers. Maggie Miller (Nazareth Academy) was Neumann’s leading defender with four caused turnovers and four ground balls. Sarah Kiraly (WC Rustin) ended with 10 saves.
Ursinus set the tone early despite Neumann striking first at the 10:33 mark of the opening quarter. Noto responded with the equalizer, and Buggy scored twice in a two-minute span to give the Bears a 3-1 lead after the first stanza.
The momentum carried into the second quarter. Junior Ryann Buchner finished off an assist from sophomore Jeremi Morrison, and Noto followed with back-to-back tallies to cap a 6-0 run and build a 6-1 advantage. Neumann scored late in the half, but Ursinus entered the break in control, 6-2.
The Bears put the game away in the third. After a caused turnover by junior Cait Michalowski (Shawnee-NJ), Noto netted her fourth goal to spark a six-goal quarter. Goals from Bogdan, Brynn Bastian-Pastore (Archmere Academy) and Noto stretched the lead to 10-2, and Ursinus carried a commanding 12-2 margin into the final period. Neumann mounted a brief push in the fourth, trimming the deficit to six, but goals from DeSiato, Noto and Buchner sealed the 15-7 final.
Defensively, Michalowski posted a career-best six caused turnovers to go with five ground balls. Noto added five caused turnovers, while Abby Burkholder, Jaime Michaud (Phoenixville) and Sophia Curtis (Pennsbury) each contributed three.
First-year goalkeeper Addi Guthrie-Pimpinella earned the win with a career-high nine saves. Ursinus outshot Neumann 41-21 and held a 27-19 edge in ground balls while converting 24-of-26 clears (92.3%).
