Women’s lacrosse: Temple improves to 8-0 with OT win over Towson

TheTemple women’s lacrosse team remained perfect (8–0) with a 13–12 overtime victory over host Towson (1–5) Wednesday evening at Johnny Unitas Stadium. Kali Saito led the Owls with a career-high four goals, while Sarah Gowman (Twin Valley) and Amelia Wright each recorded hat tricks.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Towson opened the game on a 4–0 run behind goals from Hannah Lewis, Katie Roszko, Tabi Reardon, and Elise Smigiel (Germantown Academy, 2G). After a Temple timeout, Roszko added her second goal to extend the Tigers’ lead to 5–0.

Wright got the Owls on the board with back-to-back goals to cut the deficit to three, 5–2. Roszko completed her hat trick before Gowman scored on a diving finish to make it 6–3. Saito followed with two unassisted goals to trim the lead to 6–5. Lewis closed the half with three straight goals, giving Towson a 9–5 advantage at the break.

Lexi Culp (Cardinal O’Hara) opened the second-half scoring to make it 9–6. Saito and Sabrina Martin brought Temple within one, 9–8. After Lewis netted her fifth goal of the game, Gowman answered to keep the Tigers’ lead at one, 10–9. Saito’s fourth goal of the night tied the contest at 10–10 heading into the fourth quarter.

Towson regained the lead on a free-position goal by Hailey Waldron. Martin responded with a free-position goal of her own to make it 12–11. Laura Conner (Strath Haven) then tied the game at 12–12 with a man-up goal assisted by Gowman, sending the contest to overtime.

In the extra period, Wright sealed the victory with a free-position goal, securing her fourth hat trick of the season and keeping Temple unbeaten.

INSIDE THE BOX
Sarah Gowman led the Owls with four ground balls.
Tori Tschida recorded five draw controls.
Temple went a perfect 22-for-22 on clears.
The Owls led in ground balls, 19–14.
Lexi Culp dished out three of Temple’s five assists.
