Host Stockton University used a pair of six-goal runs to control the game and knock off 19th-ranked Swarthmore College, 16-9, in a matchup of unbeaten teams and the top-ranked squads in the Lacrosse Unlimited Horsham/Phillylacrosse Division II/III Rankings.
The Ospreys (4-0) took the lead for good in the first minute of the second quarter and went on to a convincing victory. The Garnet fell to 4-1.
Alex DeLierre and Josh Graham (Garnet Valley) led Stockton with three goals and an assist apiece. Colin Wagner (Daniel Boone) tossed in three goals. Also, Gage Parker (Boyertown) added two goals, Shane Phillips (Springfield-Delco) had two assists, two caused turnovers, and a groundball, Jack Vandegrift (La Salle) added a goal, an assist, three groundballs, and a caused turnover, and Tommy Vandegrift (La Salle) scored once.
DeLierre scored late in the first quarter to tie the game 2-2 and ignite a six-goal outburst. Wagner potted the last two markers of the run, which also featured a goal and an assist by Brody Nussman, as the Ospreys took a 7-2 lead into halftime.
After Swarthmore opened the scoring in the third quarter, Stockton went on another run of six unanswered goals. Graham and DeLierre each scored twice as the Ospreys built a commanding 13-3 advantage.
Stockton led 14-4 after three, but Swarthmore scored four straight and crept to within 14-8 with 7:31 remaining. The Ospreys shut down the Garnet from there and captured the 16-9 triumph.
Stockton goalkeeper Ben Blum (Lenape) collected the win with 12 saves. Ryder Maston paced Swarthmore with a game-high four goals.
