From Press Release

Scott Gabrielsen

The Philadelphia Lacrosse Association is pleased to announce that Scott Gabrielsen has been chosen to chair the Men’s Selection Committee for the Eastern Pennsylvania Lacrosse Hall of Fame.

Gabrielsen is a member of the PLA Chapter’s Hall of Fame, having been inducted as a “Truly Great Player” in 2006. He grew up in Central New Jersey, played for Princeton High, and continued at the collegiate level at the University of Vermont. Gabrielsen is a legendary figure in Philadelphia lacrosse and a former captain of the Philadelphia Wings, where he enjoyed a remarkable 10-year professional career from 1989 to 1998. Known as “Gabes,” he helped lead the Wings to five championship titles (1989, 1990, 1994, 1995, 1998) and appeared in nine championship games, serving as team captain from 1994 through his retirement in 1998 after previously holding the role of assistant captain.

A versatile player who excelled at forward, defense, and faceoffs, Gabrielsen became the first player in National Lacrosse League history to appear in 100 games and consistently dominated the faceoff circle, posting over 60% faceoff success for four consecutive seasons. He was named a 1991 MILL All-Star, earned the 7th Man Award three times for his leadership and contributions to the team, and was selected to the Wings All-Time Team in 1995.

Since retiring from lacrosse, Gabrielsen, the Executive Vice President for CBRE, Inc., has remained a major voice in the sport of lacrosse. He has served for 17 seasons as color analyst for the Philadelphia Wings while also broadcasting lacrosse on networks including NBC SportsNet, Comcast SportsNet, PHL17, CN8, MSG, and others. His impact on the sport has been widely recognized with Hall of Fame inductions from Princeton High School (2007), the University of Vermont (1998), and the US Lacrosse chapters of Vermont (1999), Pennsylvania (2006), and New Jersey (2008).

“Scott Gabrielsen is an outstanding choice to lead the Men’s Hall of Fame Committee,” said outgoing Chair Bill Leahy. “He brings integrity, perspective, and a deep respect for the history of Philadelphia lacrosse. I am confident the committee is in excellent hands under his leadership.”

The Men’s HOF Selection Committee consists of existing Hall of Famers and other uniquely qualified individuals in the Philadelphia lacrosse community.  In addition to Gabrielsen and Leahy the committee includes John Begier, Pat Carney, Chris Goldberg, Scott Growney, Tom Lemieux, John McEvoy, Jeff Pettit, Tony Resch and David Seidman.

The PLA hosts the Hall of Fame induction ceremony every two years to honor the great players, coaches, officials, promoters and others, both men and women, who have made significant contributions to the game in Pennsylvania and are deserving of the highest recognition. The first class to the HOF was inducted in 1998. All National HOF members with a Pennsylvania nexus were admitted to the local chapter as well.  US Lacrosse requires that all candidates for the National HOF first be members of a Chapter HOF.

The PLA will be accepting nominations for the Hall of Fame Class of 2027 this fall. The incoming class will be selected following a balloting process and a vote by the PLA Board of Directors, based on the recommendations of the Men’s and Women’s HOF Selection Committees, which conduct and supervise the balloting process.
