Mark Petrone has been named the Radnor head boys’ lacrosse coach, athletic director Matt Wicks announced today.
Petrone served as the Radnor interim head coach for the final half of the 2026 season after Michael Friel stepped down for personal reasons. Petrone had been the team’s Offensive Coordinator since 2019.
Under Petrone this year, the Raptors reached the PIAA 3A finals for the sixth straight year, bowing to La Salle, 16-9, at Penn State’s Panzer Stadium. Radnor finished 20-6 overall and shared the Central League title with Springfield-Delco before bowing to Springfield in the District 1 finals.
“All we ask for is to have a good team, with good teammates who are tough, and smart, and work hard every day,” said Petrone. “And they have to continue to get better and improve.”
Petrone, a 1992 Ridley High grad, has enjoyed remarkable success as an assistant. Radnor won PIAA crowns in 2021, 2022, 2023 and 2024 and fell to Springfield-Delco in the 2025 final. In 2019 Radnor reached the PIAA semifinals (the 2020 season was lost due to COVID-19).
Before coming to Radnor, Petrone served as the Offensive Coordinator at The Haverford School for 17 seasons. While he was at Haverford, the Fords won the Inter-Ac League championship 13 times. Those Haverford teams also produced one Keystone Cup PA state championship in 2005, and two undefeated teams in 2011 and 2015, both considered National champions. Petrone’s teams have won over 470 games.
Petrone graduated from Gettysburg College and also played at Kean. He was a member of MAC and ECAC championship teams. He also played for MAB Paints and the Harrisburg Lacrosse Club.
Petrone began his coaching career in 1998 as an assistant at Franklin and Marshall, and then he was an assistant at Lynchburg from 1999-2001. He also founded the Philly Fever youth program, which merged into the Mesa Lacrosse Club, for which he is Owner/Operator.
