The Philadelphia Wings dropped an 11–6 decision to the Georgia Swarm Friday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena, as a fast start by Georgia proved too much to overcome.
The Swarm set the tone early behind a dominant first quarter from Nolan Byrne, who struck twice in the opening five minutes to give Georgia a 2–0 lead. Byrne would finish with a hat trick, consistently finding space in the middle of the floor and capitalizing in transition.
Georgia extended its advantage in the second quarter with a power-play goal from Lyle Thompson and another tally from Jordan MacIntosh to push the lead to 4-0. The Wings answered midway through the frame when Brennan O’Neill ripped home his first of the night off a feed from Michael Sowers (Upper Dublin), sparking a brief surge.

Goals from Sam LeClair and Phil Caputo pulled Philadelphia (2-9) within 5–3 late in the half, but Kaleb Benedict’s strike kept momentum on the Swarm side heading into the break. The Swarm maintained control in the third quarter, responding each time the Wings threatened. Bryan Cole and Shayne Jackson found the back of the net to stretch the margin, while Sowers’ goal kept Philadelphia within striking distance at 7–4 entering the fourth.
Eric Fannell provided late energy for the Wings, scoring twice in the final quarter – both on the power play – including a goal assisted by goaltender Nick Damude. However, Georgia answered every push. Benedict added his second of the night, and late goals from Byrne and Jackson sealed the outcome.
Thompson orchestrated the Swarm offense with four points (1 goal, 3 assists), while Jackson contributed four points of his own and peppered the cage with 16 shots on goal. Brett Dobson was stellar between the pipes for Georgia, stopping 39 shots to earn the win.
For Philadelphia, O’Neill and Fannell each finished with two goals, and Sowers tallied a goal and two assists. Damude made 41 saves in a busy night in the net.
Despite winning the faceoff battle 14-of-21 and converting twice on the power play, the Wings couldn’t overcome Georgia’s early run and balanced offensive attack. Philly takes a quick turnaround Saturday night when they take on the Swarm again down in Georgia.
