Senior attacker Sydney Wasdick (Pottsgrove) scored seven goals and classmate Marissa Herring (Kennett Square) scored five to lead third-seeded West Chester to a 22-13 victory over sixth-seeded Frostburg State in the Atlantic Region Quarterfinal at Whitenight Field Thursday afternoon in East Stroudsburg.

West Chester (16-4) advances to the Atlantic Region Semifinals with its win over Frostburg State (15-4) and will take on East Stroudsburg on Saturday at 12 p.m. at Whitenight Field. The other semifinal will pit fourth-seeded Kutztown against top-seeded Slippery Rock in Slippery Rock, Pa.

In a game that saw seven lead changes in the first half, West Chester tallied the final two goals of that half and then opened the second half with six straight to break open a back-and-forth affair in the third quarter. The Golden Rams’ defense tightened up and held the Bobcats scoreless for 17 minutes from the end of the second half through the majority of the third quarter. West Chester went on an 8-0 run over that same stretch. The Bobcats finally ended the drought with a marker with one minute left in the third.

West Chester outshot Frostburg State by a 10-4 margin and held a 6-2 edge in draw controls and a 6-4 advantage in turnovers to aid in that third quarter swing. The Golden Rams saw six different goal-scorers rip off those eight tallies in the decisive eight-goal run. Wasdick scored three of the eight. She now has scored 18 goals in five NCAA Tournament contests in her career. She also has 22 points and 28 draw controls to her credit.

Wasdick finished with a game-high eight points. Lila McMahon-Skates scored three goals and added four assists for seven points on the day. Audrey Miller (Wilson) scored four times for the Golden Rams.

Freshman defender Olivia Reinhart (Wilson) was credited with four draw controls and three caused turnovers. Wasdick finished with six and four in those categories, respectively. McMahon-Skates and Lauren Rush (Pennridge) led the team with four ground balls each to their credit.

Frostburg State’s Delaney Burrows led the Bobcats with three goals. Neila Haney posted a team-best six points (2G, 4A) and a game-high 10 draw controls in the loss. Sophomore goalkeeper, Liz Amos, made 14 saves.

Korrigan Sweeney (Owen J. Roberts) came on in relief of starting keeper Morgan Koons (Crestwood) and made five saves in 38 minutes of play. She allowed in five of Frostburg State’s 13 goals. Koons played 21 minutes and made two saves.
