From Press Release

The La Salle women’s lacrosse team opened its 2026 season at McCarthy Stadium with a dominant 17-3 victory over Delaware State in non-conference play on Friday afternoon.

The victory marked the first career win at La Salle for head coach and North Penn grad Kirkland Lewis, ushering in a new era for the Explorers. It also marked the program’s first home win at McCarthy Stadium since March 27, 2022.

Emi Waldron (Collingswood-NJ) scored the opening goal of the game and finished with four goals and one assist, powering an attack that overwhelmed Delaware State from the outset. Sam Klein matched Waldron with four goals and an assist as both senior attackers finished with five points apiece.

Senior attacker Molly Maloney recorded a hat trick, finishing with three goals and an assist. Junior midfielder Kate Licciardi also tallied four points in the win, including a game-high three assists.

The game proved memorable for several young Explorers as well. Freshman midfielder Delaney Staples and sophomore attacker Bri McClain (Emmaus) each scored the first goals of their La Salle careers, adding to the team’s offensive depth and energy in the second quarter. McClain ended the contest with four points, finishing with two goals and two assists.

Midfielders Auria Mullins and Mia Riccitelli (Wilson) each added a goal in the victory. Tess Waltrich (Archbishop Wood) had four draw controls.

La Salle’s defense was equally impressive, holding Delaware State to only three goals and forcing 22 turnovers. Senior goalkeeper Mary Babbage anchored the unit with six saves and a .667 save percentage while playing the full 60 minutes. Babbage also caused three turnovers and scooped up a team-high six ground balls.

The Explorers outshot Delaware State 42-18, collected 33 ground balls to the Hornets’ 19 and won 16 of 22 draw controls.
