High school coaches can nominate players for Pansini Memorial Scholar-Athlete of the Week

Staff Report

High school coaches in the region are encouraged to nominate varsity players this scholastic season for the Michael Pansini Memorial Scholar-Athlete Award. This weekly feature recognizes high achievers in the classroom, on the lacrosse field, and in the community.

All boys and girls playing on varsity teams in grades 11 and 12 can be recognized. Head coaches can nominate student-athletes who shine in academics, lacrosse, and community/school service.

Those honored will be featured with an interview, a photo, and social media coverage on Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram. A cash prize will be given to each winner.

This is the 11th year the Pansini & Pizzica Law Group has sponsored the award.

Tragically, Michael Pansini, founder of the Law Group, passed away in August of 2023 after a long bout with cancer. His legacy of giving and putting the spotlight equally on success off the field will continue through this award. Three of his daughters – Laura, Maria, and Natalie – excelled in lacrosse at Agnes Irwin.

“Our father believed in athletes excelling in the classroom as well as on the field. He instilled those values in each of us, his daughters Bridget, Laura, Maria, and Natalie,” said Mr. Pansini’s daughters in a joint statement. “We know how pleased he was to have created this award of achievement for lacrosse athletes in Greater Philadelphia Area. We miss him deeply and we are so proud that we can continue his legacy of giving to the lacrosse community that he so loved.”

“This is a way to celebrate the life of Michael Pansini and his family and their incredible generosity and commitment to advocating for student-athletes,” said Chris Goldberg, owner of Lacrosse Media, LLC, which operates Phillylacrosse.com. “As an educator and former coach myself, we seek to recognize the great accomplishments of our student-athletes in the region, off the field as well as on the field. To have the Memorial award as Michael’s legacy on our website is an honor to share.

“Service has played an even bigger role in our schools and communities these past few years. We are honored to work with area coaches and recognize the fine student-athletes who seek to make our communities better.”

Coach nominations can be made by compiling information and statistics for the nominees and e-mailing us at golax@phillylacrosse.com, and titling the message “Pansini Memorial Scholar-Athlete.” Coach nominations can be made immediately.
