Sophomore Price Orcutt scored the game-winner with 12 seconds to play as visiting Conestoga opened its season by defeating Agnes Irwin, 6-5, today in a non-league game.
The Pioneers gave rookie head coach Jaclyn Collins a victory over a nationally-ranked team in her debut.
Conestoga is No. 2 in the PA Lacrosse News 3A State Rankings and No. 7 in the Phillylacrosse.com Rankings. Agnes Irwin (1-1) is No. 10 in the Inside Lacrosse/Q Collar National Rankings, No. 2 in the PA Lax News Private Rankings, and No. 2 in the Phillylacrosse Rankings.
Sofia Calvitti was an impact player on defense for the Pioneers, collecting five groundballs, while Courtney Smock stood out in goal with 9 saves. Orcutt scored twice, while Brooke Bickel (2GB), Julia Cowgill (1DC, 1GB, 1CT), Maggie Neary, and Lia Messina each scored once.
Kelsey Young (2DC, 1GB, 1CT) and Ella Garner each scored twice for the Owls, and Sophia Pratt had a goal and two assists.
