From USA Lacrosse
Ten of the 22 players who won a gold medal with the U.S. Women’s Field National Team earlier this month in Tokyo will be back in red, white and blue next week for a sixes training camp.
U.S. Women’s Sixes National Team head coach Lindsey Munday and her staff have invited 22 players overall – including Northwestern rising junior Aditi Foster (Penn Charter, 2024 Phillylacrosse.com Player of the Year) to train at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. The five-day camp starts Monday and concludes Friday, with the public invited to attend a free exhibition Thursday, Aug. 20, at Tierney Field from 5-7 p.m. EDT.
The Tokyo contingent includes World Lacrosse Women’s Championship MVP Ally Kennedy and reigning Tewaaraton Award winner Madison Taylor. Joining them in the transition from the field to sixes discipline are Anna Brandt, Brigid Duffy, Kori Edmondson, Emma LoPinto, Ally Mastroianni, Eliza Osburn, Sydney Scales and Izzy Scane.
Several players on the training camp roster are also competing in the Women’s Lacrosse League championship game (California Palms vs. Maryland Charm) this weekend (Saturday, 5 p.m. EDT, ESPN) at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa.
This is the first of two training camps preceding the Pan-American Sixes Lacrosse Championships Sept. 29-Oct. 4 in Oshawa, Ontario, a continental qualifier for the 2027 World Lacrosse Sixes Championship and the beginning of the pathway to the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
Sixes is the rapid-fire, 6v6 version of lacrosse created in 2021 by World Lacrosse as part of the Olympic movement. The field is smaller, the quarters are shorter and draws occur only at the beginning of each quarter. The competition roster limit is 12.
A two-time world champion as a player, Munday was named head coach of the U.S. Women’s Sixes National Team in 2024 and steered the United States to a gold medal at The World Games 2025 in Chengdu, China. It will be a busy fall for the team, with the U.S. also looking to defend its title at the Atlas Cup, the second edition of which takes place Oct. 23-25 at USA Lacrosse.
