D1 men’s roundup: Freshmen Ortlieb, Tantillo (Malvern Prep) have huge debuts for Duke in victory; Philly alums lead Hofstra

Duke freshmen and Malvern Prep grads Michael Ortlieb and Will Tantillo enjoyed big debuts as the host and 11th-ranked Blue Devils routed Bellarmine, 23-8, to open the 2026 men’s lacrosse season Monday afternoon on Cohan Fields.

Ortlieb tallied three goals, one groundball, and one caused turnover. At the same time, Tantillo had four groundballs at short-stick midfield, Also, Henry Bard (Lower Merion) collected three groundballs and a caused turnover, Patrick Jameison (Conestoga) had three saves (two goals allowed in 40 minutes) to earn the win. Ben McCarthy (Haverford School) went 7-of-10 at the faceoff X with five groundballs.

Hofstra 14, Iona 7

Anthony Laber (St. Joseph’s Prep) had a goal and an assist, Will Delaney (Episcopal Academy) had three groundballs and a caused turnover while Owen Bosak (Ridley) won 9 of 19 faceoffs and grabbed seven groundballs for Hofstra in his college debut.
