From Press Releases
Hobart first-year goalie Michael Johnson (Conestoga) was named the Atlantic 10 Men’s Lacrosse Rookie of the Week today by the conference office. He backstopped the Statesmen to a 13-8 win over Canisius on Saturday.
Johnson won his collegiate debut, finishing the game with 14 saves, including five in the fourth quarter. He turned aside the first two shots he faced, keeping the game scoreless through five minutes and finished the first quarter with a .667 save percentage and a 6-1 lead.
Johnson is the first first-year to start the season opener for Hobart in its Division I era (since 1995). Johnson’s 14 saves are the most by a Statesmen first-year goalie since Max Silberlicht made 17 stops against Fairfield on March 31, 2007.
Johnson is sixth in the nation in save percentage (.636), eighth in saves per game (14.0) and 12th in goals against average (8.00).
Hobart (1-0) will begin a three-game road trip Saturday, Feb. 14, when the Statesmen take on Colgate (0-2) in Hamilton, New York. The opening faceoff is scheduled for noon.
Drexel’s Donnelly (Germantown Academy) is CAA Defensive POW
Brendan Donnelly (Germantown Academy) of the Drexel men’s lacrosse team was named the Coastal Athletic Association’s Defensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon. The Dragons defeated Delaware, 11-1 to open the 2026 campaign.
Donnelly helped Drexel jump out to a 1-0 start to the season after tying a career-high 14 saves. The junior and the Drexel defense held Delaware’s high-powered offense to just a 3% shooting percentage. The Blue Hens found the back of the net once and took 29 shots on goal. Donnelly helped defeat the Blue Hens for the first time since 2021 and by 10 or more goals since 1973.
