Dan Riely fired home the game-winner in the second overtime today as host Malvern Prep defeated Chaminade (N.Y.), 11-10, today in a battle of two of the top-ranked boys’ lacrosse teams in the nation.

Riely’s heroics closed out a comeback from a late 10-8 deficit as the Friars – top-ranked by Phillylacrosse.com and in the PA Lacrosse News Private poll – improved to 5-0 by knocking off the No. 2 team in the Inside Lacrosse/Q Collar Rankings. Malvern entered play as the No. 3 team and will face No. 1 Lawrenceville School on March 28 after a March 24 date with La Salle.

Riely (4G, 3GB) won it after the Friars sent it into OT on late 4th-period tallies by Danny Lucovich (with 4:22 left) and Jamie McCracken (2:18 left). Riely also scored a key goal to pull Malvern within 9-8 after Chaminade had taken a 2-goal lead.

The Friars also rallied from a 7-2 second-period deficit to pull within 7-6 at the half. Lucovich (2G), Conor McCarthy, Riely and McCracken (3G, 1A, 1GB) scored unanswered goals to make it 7-6.

TJ McDermott won 7 of 10 faceoffs, and Matt Connolly was 7 of 14 at the faceoff X. Eddie Rudloff had six groundballs for Malvern Prep, while Sam Kelleher collected four GBs and Joey Murphy had a goal, an assist and two groundballs.
