North Carolina will play Northwestern for an NCAA National championship on Sunday, May 25, as the Tar Heels rolled to a 20-4 semifinal victory on Friday, May 23, in the 2025 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts. The top-seeded Tar Heels got three goals from Marissa White (Agnes Irwin) and earned their sixth championship-game appearance in program history.
UNC will play No. 3 seed Northwestern, which rallied past No. 2 seed Boston College, 12-11. The championship game is slated for Sunday, May 25, at noon ET on ESPN. The Tar Heels and Wildcats matched up in the regular season, with UNC prevailing on the road, 15-12, on March 27 in Evanston, Illinois.
Kiley Mottice (Archbishop Carroll) contributed two groundballs for the Tar Heels.
Meanwhile, Delaney Sweitzer (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) made a game-preserving save in the final seconds to close out a remarkable comeback for the Wildcats, who trailed 11-6 heading into the final period. Sweitzer, a grad student transfer from Syracuse, had 8 saves. Also, defender Mary Carroll (Kennett) had two groundballs and two caused turnovers and Aditi Foster (Penn Charter) had one goal.
