From Press Release

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) is proud to announce that Temple’s Madison Moten (Delran-NJ), a senior defender has been selected as this year’s recipient of the Tina Sloan Green Award.

This prestigious honor recognizes individuals who promote a culture of equity and inclusion within athletics. The award is named in honor of legendary Temple coach Tina Sloan Green, the first black head coach in the history of women’s intercollegiate lacrosse.

“I am humbly honored to receive the 2025 Tina Sloan Green Award. Tina’s impact on Temple Women’s Lacrosse and the University continues to shape my experience here as a student and athlete,” said Moten. “Being a part of this program has allowed me to learn from Tina and be able to carry forward her mission of breaking barriers.

“This recognition motivates me to keep giving back to the game of lacrosse and to inspire young athletes to dream big and break barriers.”

A standout student-athlete and Sport and Recreation Management major, Moten balances excellence in the classroom while maintaining a 3.7 GPA and membership in the Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Society. As Director of Community Outreach for Temple’s Black Student-Athlete Association (BSAA), she has spearheaded numerous initiatives that connect Temple Athletics with the surrounding North Philadelphia community, including Trunk or Treat, book drives, and holiday food and toy drives. Her work has created safe spaces, strengthened community ties, and amplified the voices of Black student-athletes within Temple’s athletics program.

On the field, last season Moten started all 16 games for the Cherry and White, recording 16 ground balls, 16 caused turnovers, and two draw controls. She had seven games with multiple recovered ground balls and ranked third on the team in caused turnovers.

During the 2024 season, Moten appeared in ten games with eight starts, tallying 12 ground balls, eight caused turnovers, and one draw control. She posted two ground balls and a season-high three caused turnovers against Delaware and collected a season-best three ground balls versus Manhattan. As a freshman in 2023, she saw action in five games, notching a ground ball and a caused turnover in an 11-10 loss to UMBC and adding another caused turnover against No. 16 Yale.

Before arriving at Temple, Moten was a standout at Delran where she was a two-time First Team BSCL All-Star and team captain. Over her junior and senior seasons, she totaled 148 points and 100 draw controls, helping lead Delran to the second round of the BSCL playoffs.

When nominating Moten, Temple head coach Bonnie Rosen reflected on how Moten has followed in those footsteps to uphold the standards established by Green. “This is such a special recognition for so many reasons. From the moment I arrived at Temple, Tina Sloan Green’s presence could be felt.

“Her impact on the game of lacrosse, the players she has coached, and the opportunities she has created for young girls to access this sport is immeasurable. I am so proud of Maddie for the work she has done, and I am thrilled for her to receive this award. For Maddie to be recognized in Tina’s name—honoring her work to grow the game and use lacrosse as a vehicle for positive change—is incredibly meaningful. It is truly a full-circle moment for Temple Lacrosse.”

The IWLCA looks forward to celebrating Moten’s achievement at this year’s IWLCA Convention during the IWLCA Honors Dinner & Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on November 20 at the Tradewinds Resort Hotel in St. Pete, Florida.
