Temple Lacrosse is excited to announce the addition of Steph Lazo to its coaching staff as an assistant coach.
Lazo arrived at Temple following her return to Penn State in August 2024, where she served as an assistant coach and offensive coordinator for the Nittany Lions. The position marked a homecoming for Lazo, a former standout student-athlete and 2x All-American at Penn State.
Before her return to Happy Valley, Lazo spent three seasons (2021–24) as the associate head coach at the University of Delaware, where she led the Blue Hens’ offensive unit. Under her guidance, Delaware’s offense thrived, scoring 195 goals in 2024 and averaging 12.19 goals per game.
Lazo also gained valuable experience earlier in her career as a volunteer assistant coach at Penn State from 2018 to 2019 and as an offensive assistant at Mount St. Mary’s during the 2017– 18 season.
“It is with great excitement that we welcome Steph Lazo to our coaching staff! An accomplished collegiate and international player and a veteran coach, Steph’s resume speaks for itself. Her knowledge, competitiveness, passion for the game, and ability to connect with people will make an immediate impact on our program as we set out to make the 25–26 season one to remember,” said head coach Bonnie Rosen.
During her playing career, Lazo was one of the most dynamic attackers in Penn State history. She helped lead the Nittany Lions to four NCAA Tournament appearances, including two semifinal berths. She earned numerous accolades along the way, including 2017 Big Ten Attack Player of the Year, 3x All-Region selection, 2x All-Big Ten honoree, 2017 IWLCA Senior All-Star Game MVP, and Penn State Female Athlete of the Year (2017). Lazo’s senior season was particularly historic, as she led the Big Ten in both points (89) and assists (43), the most points by a Nittany Lion in a single season since 1989 and the second-most assists in program history. She concluded her career ranked seventh all-time in both points (211) and assists (89) at Penn State.
In addition to her collegiate accomplishments, Lazo was selected by the New England Command in the inaugural Women’s Professional Lacrosse League draft. In February 2025, she was named head coach of the Philippines Women’s National Team.
A Stevensville, Md. native, Lazo earned her bachelor’s degree in rehabilitation and human services from Penn State in 2017.
“I want to thank head coach Bonnie Rosen for this awesome opportunity to join the Temple family! I am excited to work alongside her and one of my former teammates, Cat Rainone, as we push Temple Lacrosse to new heights. Go Owls,” said Lazo.
