The Neumann University women’s lacrosse team picked up its first win of the season Tuesday, and the first of the Jackie Neary era, with a 19-5 final over visiting Delaware Valley University on Tuesday afternoon.
Neary – a former Ridley High and Temple University great – was a coaching legend at Cabrini University, which closed after last season. Neary amassed an overall record of 351-158 in 28 years at Cabrini, claiming 22 conference championships while making 21 trips to the NCAA tournament. She won 17 conference Coach of the Year honors and ranks second in wins among active Division III women’s lacrosse coaches in the country.
Alena Catka (Sun Valley) rattled off six goals, three assists and 14 draw controls in the win for Neumann. Lindsey Fagan (Boner-Prendergast) notched four goals and four assists. Krista Geibler (Ridley) tallied a hat trick. Neve Murphy (Camden Catholic-NJ) handed out a pair of goals and assists.
Abbey Fenton (Ocean City-NJ) started the game in net and made two saves in 40+ minutes for the win. Sarah Kiraly (WC Rustin) made her Knights debut, playing 12+ minutes. Kortney Kaelin (Triton-NJ) finished the game in net.

The Knights jumped out quickly and scored nine goals in the first quarter. Fagan scored the first goal with 12:46 on the clock. Catka added to the lead just 10 seconds later. Catka ended up scoring four goals in the first quarter while Fagan and Geibler each added two and Cionni Warrington (Penncrest) one to wrap up the first 15 minutes.
Fagan opened the second quarter with two more goals and the running clock started. Kenna Sanders scored her first collegiate goal, off an assist from Maggie Miller (Nazareth Academy), to wrap up the Neumann first half scoring. The Aggies scored a goal just before halftime and the Knights took a 13-1 advantage at the break.
Late in the fourth quarter, Ainsley George (Bonner-Prendergast) and Rex Thenor (Riverside-NJ) each scored their first goals of the season for the 19-5 final.
