*Erika Chung assisted a team-high five goals in the victory.

*Senior Anna Brandt scored a Quaker-high four goals. Regan O’Brien trailed with her second-straight hat trick, followed by Block and Catherine Berkery netting a pair each.

*The ranked win marks the second of the year for the Red and Blue, with the first of the season coming from Loyola Maryland, 12-10.

*Freshman Sarah Kelley (Radnor) scored her third goal of the year.

*Locally, for Maryland, sophomore defender Fallon George (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) started for the Terps.

How It Happened
The Quakers took an early 2-0 lead off goals from senior Brandt and sophomore Berkery. The Terps cut the lead to one with 11:21 left, then tied the battle five minutes later to keep the game close. Berkery accepted a dish from senior Chung with 4:10 on the clock to push Penn ahead 3-2. With less than a minute left, Maryland netted back-to-back goals to lead 4-3 heading into the second.

Sophomore O’Brien opened the second period scoring with her fifth tally of the season to put the game at four with 11:46 left of the half. Midfielder Brandt slammed her second of the outing past the Terrapins’ keeper to give the Quakers’ lead at 5-4. Less than three minutes later, both teams exchanged goals to keep the battle within a goal.

The Red and Blue caught a spark as sophomore O’Brien and Kelley netted back-to-back goals to lengthen the deficit to 8-5 to close the first half.

Maryland opened the second half with a point to prove, scoring a little over a minute into the third to cut the lead to a pair of goals. Luckily, O’Brien netted her second hat trick of the year to create a 9-6 cushion with 10:33 on the board. Both defenses stood tall as the next goal of the third didn’t come until the final minute from the Terps to put the hole at two goals. Brandt closed the period with her 30th goal of the season to put the game at 10-7 heading into the final 15 of regulation.

Brandt opened the fourth with her fourth of the day, but the Terps answered right back to put the game at 11-9 with 12:31 left in the period. Maryland started a run from the goal, netting three unanswered tallies to tie the battle at 11 off a free position with 8:22 left of regulation.

Not even a minute later, Mae Zaremba broke the tie for the Quakers, but Maryland retaliated with 4:51 on the clock to even the score at 12.
