Senior Matt Traynor (Malvern Prep) exploded for a seven-point outing drove the No. 12 Penn State men’s lacrosse team to a 14-9 victory over Colgate in the team’s season opener on Saturday afternoon.
Kyle Lehman (Wissahickon) added two goals and an assist for Penn State, freshman Hunter Aquino (Academy of the New Church) had two goals, Ryan DiRocco (Haverford School) scored once, and Will Peden (Malvern Prep) added two assists. Also, Ryan O’Connor (Springfield-Delco) had two groundballs, Luke Walstrum (Council Rock North) had an assist, and freshman Lucca DiBartolomeo (Malvern Prep) had a groundball.
Junior goalie Jack Fracyon tallied 13 saves on 22 shots attempted. This is the 22nd time in his career he’s let up less than 10 goals in a single game.
Lafayette 11, Air Force 8
Freshman Clifford Chapman (Hill School) and Nicolas Blalock (Hill School) each had a goal and an assist as Lafayette outscored Air Force, 7-2, in the second half to register a victory in the season opener at Fisher Stadium.
In goal, Leopard junior Joe Doherty (Malvern Prep) made 11 saves to earn the win. Burke, Brendan (Archmere Academy) added two groundballs and Evan Prince (Harriton) won 3 of 7 faceoffs.
For the Air Force, Caelan Driggs (Salesianum School) scored once.
Rutgers 10, Lehigh 6
Andrew Kelly (La Salle) had two goals, one assist, and a groundball and defenseman Raul Ochotorena (Southern Lehigh) added two groundballs and a caused turnover for Lehigh in defeat. Connor Riley (Salesianum School) won his lone faceoff and Colin French (Radnor) had a groundball.
For the winning Knights, Colin Zeller (Haverford School) starred with four groundballs while Conor Udovich (Archmere Academy) and Dean Scalamandre (Council Rock North) each had a groundball.
