Andy Shay, head coach of the U.S. Men’s Sixes National Team, has announced the 24 players that will be attending a three-day training camp at USA Lacrosse headquarters from Sept. 23-25. The training camp comes ahead of two major sixes international competitions this fall – The Atlas Cup at USA Lacrosse in Sparks, Md. (Sept. 24-26) and World Lacrosse Super Sixes in Oshawa, Ontario (Oct. 10-12).
Shay has divided the 24 players, which includes all four finalists for this year’s Premier Lacrosse League MVP Award, into two equal squads for the competitions as the U.S. program continues to build towards the 2028 LA Olympics that will utilize the sixes discipline of lacrosse.
The Atlas Cup, featuring the men’s and women’s national sixes teams from Canada, the Haudenosaunee Nationals, Puerto Rico and the United States, will feature fan zones, food trucks, custom merchandise, exclusive gate giveaways and interactive in-game entertainment while offering fans an up-close personal experience with the biggest names in the sport.
Half of the 24 players coming to camp have played for the U.S. in previous world championship competitions, including nine that have won gold medals. The player pool includes PLL MVP finalists Pat Kavanagh, Brennan O’Neill, Connor Shellenberger and Michael Sowers (Upper Dublin) along with all three PLL Goalie of the Year finalists Liam Entenmann, Logan McNaney and Blaze Riorden.
This will be the first training opportunity for the U.S. men’s sixes program since last fall’s USA Lacrosse Experience in Indianapolis where Shay led the U.S. team to victories over Colombia, Great Britain and Puerto Rico.
