The city’s athletic spirit was on full display last weekend as over 50 middle school girls competed in the highly anticipated Philadelphia Girls Middle School Lacrosse Showcase at Germantown Supersite on May 29. Representing schools from across the district—including programs from Baldi, Greenberg, Finletter, and Olney—this event celebrated not only competition but the continued growth of girls’ lacrosse in the city.
The showcase featured sixth-grade teams and seventh/eighth-grade teams, all bringing impressive energy, skill, and sportsmanship to the field. From the opening draw to the final whistle, players demonstrated fundamental skills and cooperative play. Coaches across all schools were applauded for their dedication and guidance in developing lacrosse skills and sportsmanship in the middle school girls’ program.
A special highlight of the day was the Lacrosse Skills Competition, where players showed off their fastest shots, speed through obstacle courses, and scooping skills. The competition brought out the girls’ individual strengths, drawing cheers from teammates.
“This showcase is a testament to the hard work these student-athletes and coaches put in every day,” said a league supervisor. “Their commitment to learning the game, working as a team, and growing in confidence is exactly what youth sports are all about.”
Each team left the field with a sense of accomplishment, new friendships, and pride in their performance. As the sport continues to gain popularity across Philadelphia schools, the future of girls’ lacrosse in the city looks brighter than ever.
