A Malvern Prep student and member of the lacrosse team has been identified as the teen who died Tuesday morning after a deer struck by one vehicle was thrown into the path of another car in the oncoming lane on Route 322 in Chester County.
School officials stated that Kevin Donohue, of Downingtown, was en route to school when the accident occurred, according to reports.
The crash occurred around 7 a.m. on Route 322 (Downingtown Pike) near Romig Road in West Bradford Township, police said. A vehicle traveling eastbound hit a deer, launching the animal airborne into the westbound lane, where it crashed through the windshield of a second vehicle and struck Donohue in the passenger seat, police said.
Donohue was a member of the Class of 2027 at Malvern Prep who played defense for the lacrosse team and also played for the True Roughriders travel squad.
“Kevin was an exceptional young man who embodied the very best characteristics of a Malvern Prep student,” school officials said in a letter to the community. “He will be deeply missed.”
Police said the driver of the first vehicle the deer struck did not stop.
Investigators believe the vehicle is a black Toyota with heavy front-end damage.
