Tommy Hannum has been named head coach for the Radnor girls’ lacrosse program.
Yes, that’s the same Tommy Hannum who in 2023 was inducted into the Eastern PA Chapter of the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame as a boys’ coach.

Hannum won 428 games as head boys’ coach at Crawford (CA), Marple Newtown (twice), West Chester East, Downingtown West, and Bayard Rustin from 1985-2019. He was the Phillylacrosse.com Coach of the Year in 2012 when he led Downingtown West to its third straight Ches-Mont League championship.
Hannum moved to coaching girls at the high school level after the pandemic. He served as a Radnor girls’ assistant in 2023 and 2024. In the 2025 season, he was the JV head coach. He has also coached for many years in Radnor Township’s girls’ youth program.
“I am so super excited and honored, and it’s a privilege to take over the RGL Program,” said Hannum. “I will do my best to continue the amazing legacy of the past of RGL.”
In high school, he was an attackman at West Chester East, earning All-Suburban and All-State recognition. Hannum attended San Diego State University (SDSU), where he was a WCLL All-Star all four years and MVP of the 1984 WCLL All-Star Game. In 1984, he played for Team USA California in the World Games, and in 1990 he was inducted into the SDSU Hall of Fame.
Hannum began his coaching at Crawford High School in San Diego, and led the team to the City Championships in 1985 and 1986. Overall, his record was 39-6 in 3 seasons.
Once back East, Hannum continued playing post-collegiately, competing on numerous club championship teams and earning dozens of impressive accolades. In total, he played in seven club All-Star games, 10 Vail Championships, and 13 Lake Placid Championships, where he was named MVP three times. Internationally, Tommy played for Team Toyota in the 2002 Masters-Level World Games in Perth, Australia, where he won a World Championship. In 2014, his Team Harley 50 Plus club also won a World Championship, and he continues to play in over-60 lacrosse tournaments.
Professionally, he played for the Philadelphia Wings (1988-92) and was a member of the Wings’ 1989 and 1991 World Championships. He also served several seasons as an assistant coach with the Wings.
Hannum first began coaching in the Philly region at Marple Newtown (1991-2000) and then took over at Downingtown West when Downingtown split into two schools in 2004. His record there was 139-56. Hannum later coached at Bayard Rustin and then again at Marple Newtown again.
