Recent Chestnut Hill College lacrosse captain Billy DeMaio has been identified as one of the 14 people killed early Wednesday morning when a man drove a truck down Bourbon Street in New Orleans through a crowd of New Year’s revelers in an incident being investigated as an act of terrorism.

Mr. DeMaio, 25, was the captain of the 2022 squad when he earned second-team All-Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference honors at short-stick midfield for the conference champion Griffins.
“We are devastated by the news of the passing of our alumnus, Billy DiMaio ’22,” according to a statement released by the college. “Billy was a leader within our community who shined not only as a star student in the classroom but also as a top athlete, serving as a captain on our 2022 championship lacrosse team. Our prayers are with the entire DiMaio family at this tragic hour, as our entire college reflects upon the positive impact he had upon so many in our close community.”
Mr. DiMaio was a New York-based account executive with Audacy Inc., and the oldest of three children, according to NOLA.com.
Mr. DeMaio graduated from Holmdel HS (N.J.) and played in parts of five seasons with the Griffins, graduating in 2022 with a degree in Business Administration & Management.
