Jake Bergey – Truly Great Player

A dominant force at every level of the game, Jake’s Lacrosse contributions span his standout high school and collegiate years to his illustrious professional career and commitment to growing the sport through coaching and youth development. Jake’s journey began at Tatnall School, where he was a four-year varsity midfielder and team captain. His exceptional play earned him All-State and All-American honors in 1993, culminating in a prestigious North/South All-Star Game selection. His talent and leadership continued at Salisbury University, where he served as team captain in 1997 and 1998. A four-time All-Conference selection, Jake was named League MVP in 1998 and earned First Team All-American honors three consecutive years (1996-1998). He also capped off his collegiate career by competing in the North/South All-Star Game 1998. Jake’s success translated seamlessly to the professional level, where he played for the Philadelphia Wings from 1998 to 2009, serving as captain for six seasons. He also competed with the Rochester Rattlers from 2001 to 2003 and was named an All-Pro five times in Major League Lacrosse (MLL) and the National Lacrosse League (NLL). His impact on the Wings was so profound that his number was retired in recognition of his legacy.
Beyond his playing career, Jake dedicated himself to coaching and developing the next generation of lacrosse players. He has coached at Radnor High School, with Brotherly Love, and the Penn Lax All-Stars, while also contributing to the Reading Rockets program. Additionally, his efforts in youth development include work with West Bradford Youth Lacrosse and Downingtown West Lacrosse Camps.
Jake’s sports contributions have been widely recognized, including him into the Salisbury Lacrosse Hall of Fame and the Tatnall Hall of Fame. His exceptional skill, leadership, and dedication to the game have left an indelible mark on the lacrosse community. The Philadelphia Lacrosse Association is honored to welcome Jake Bergey into its Hall of Fame, celebrating his outstanding career and lasting impact on sport.

Keith Broome – Truly Great Coach

 Keith Broome enters the Hall of Fame as a truly great coach. Keith played lacrosse for the Springfield AA and Springfield High school as a defender from 1975-1978. He was coached by the Hall of Fame mentor Stu Brown and played for Springfield High School’s first State Championship team in 1978. In 1990-1992, Keith became an assistant coach on Jon Heisman’s staff at Springfield which was the only undefeated team in school history that won the state title in 1992 at 24-0.

In 1997, Keith was named head coach of the Springfield High School girls lacrosse program. In his career his teams have amassed a record of 515-125-7. Springfield is a storied program. Coach Broome has been involved for over 28 years coaching his team and guiding them to a berth in the District 1 tournament every year. Being in the Central League, considered to be one of the premier leagues in the state, is always a challenge. Springfield has won the league championship in 2004, 2007, 2023 and 2025 and shared the title in 2010 and 2011. Coach Broome’s teams have played in the District 1 title game 17 different times, coming away with the District title 8 times. Springfield Girls Lacrosse made history this year by being the first team in school history to win the League, District and State Championship in the same season! That is not an easy feat to accomplish for any team! In the sixteen years that the PIAA has recognized a girls lacrosse state champion Springfield has reached the final five times. Springfield last won the State Title in 2019. Keith Broome is being honored today as a Truly Great Coach. If you look at any stat sheet involving Springfield Girls Lacrosse, Coach Broome’s imprint is all over it. He is a true leader and knows how to mix competition as well as compassion with all of his players. Congratulations Coach Broome on your storied coaching career. The best part is….you are not done yet!!!

Roberta “Bert” Butler –Truly Great Contributor

 Roberta  Butler enters the Hall of Fame recognized for her expansive contributions to the game of lacrosse.  She has been devoted to the growth, integrity, and care of women’s lacrosse —as a player, athletic trainer, researcher, official, assignor, volunteer board member and mentor.  She has had a significant impact on lacrosse in this region at all levels and across generations.

A proud Temple University alumna and former team captain, Roberta began her lacrosse journey on the field and quickly transitioned into roles that would shape the sport at every level. As Head Athletic Trainer for Team USA, she supported the National Squad through multiple international tours, including the 1982 World Cup in England, bringing world-class care and professionalism to the highest level of competition.

Her legacy as a National and District Emeritus Umpire reflects decades of professional expertise and leadership on the field. Her unmatched work as an assignor has supported the officiating structure of nearly every major high school and collegiate conference in the region. Through her company, By Design Assigning LLC, she coordinated thousands of games annually, ensuring quality officiating and mentorship for countless officials across field hockey and lacrosse.

Roberta has also served as a certified trainer and observer for USA Lacrosse and USA Field Hockey, and held influential leadership roles on numerous boards and committees. As founder and coach of the Council Rock Youth Lacrosse Association, she helped foster the next generation of players in her community.

From caring for national champions to mentoring young athletes and officials, Roberta Butler’s contributions have left a lasting imprint on the sport. The Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter of the USA Lacrosse Hall of Fame proudly honors her lifetime of service, leadership, and devotion to the game.

Carol Daly Cantele –Truly Great Coach

Carol Cantele enters the Hall of Fame as a truly great coach.  An alumna of Nether Providence High School, Carole was a dual sport athlete in field hockey and lacrosse at Gettysburg College. She was a member of the AIAW National Championship field hockey team and AIAW Regional Lacrosse championship lacrosse team.  Carol then  went on to coach both sports at Gettysburg and established herself as a truly great coach.  Carol ranks second in NCAA Div. III wins with 470 over her 34-season career. Throughout her career, Carol brought home: 3 national Championships, 13 Centennial Conference Championships, and her teams appeared 20 times in the NCAA tournament. She has also coached 67 All-Americans.

Carol’s expertise in coaching led her to being an Assistant USA National Team coach for 4 years leading to the US team becoming the  2013 World Cup Champions. She has been recognized as National Coach of the Year 4 times, Centennial Conference Coach of the Year 3 times, and Metro Region Coach of the Year 10 times.

Carol has shared her expertise for decades by organizing Coaching Symposia and being one of the highly selective speakers for a prestigious leadership program while also accepting dozens of other invitations to speak about coaching, leadership and player well-being. Carol is in the Delaware County Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame, the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association Hall of Fame, Gettysburg College Hall of Athletic Honor, and the National Lacrosse Hall of Fame.  She  most recently  delivered the keynote address  at Gettysburg College’s 2025 Commencement and was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science in Physical Education. Carol certainly belongs among the greats in the coaching field. 

Jojo Connelly – Truly Great  Player

Jojo Connelly enters  the Hall of Fame as a truly great player.  Jojo was introduced to lacrosse by legendary player Candy Finn her Freshman year of high school.  From day one, Jojo stood out as a force on the field. A four-year varsity player at Brooks School in Massachusetts, she led with talent and tenacity. As Co-Captain in 1992, Jojo earned All-New England and All-Conference honors in both junior and senior years and capped off her high school career as an All-American.

Jojo was a walk-on at Penn State her Freshman year for lacrosse, eventually earning a split full scholarship between soccer and lacrosse each of her final two years.  At Penn State, Jojo built a legacy. A four-year starter and team Co-Captain in 1996, she led the team to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Final Four run in 1995. Jojo earned All-American honors three times—2nd Team in 1994, and 1st Team in both 1995 and 1996—cementing her place among the best in collegiate lacrosse. 

As a member of the inaugural varsity women’s soccer team her Junior year, Jojo went on to play every game she played in her final three years at Penn State, helping lead the team to NCAA tournament appearances each of those years, and was team Co-Captain in 1996. Jojo was named the third best Female Athlete at Penn State in 1996 as voted on by her peers.

For over a decade, Jojo wore the red, white, and blue with pride. She played on U.S. Touring Teams in 1996, 2000, and 2004, and competed in three World Cups (1997, 2001, 2005), earning two golds and one silver medal. Her performance on the global stage was unmatched—culminating in a selection to the 2005 All-World Team as a top defender.

Jojo’s commitment extended into coaching, with assistant roles at Stanford, Penn State, Boston College, and Convent of the Sacred Heart. Her service to the game also included time on the US Lacrosse Board of Directors and  representing the Athletes Council from 2004–2005.

Jojo currently resides in Boston, MA where she has dedicated her life to the well-being of domestic animals, working as an emergency and surgery nurse at an ER hospital.

Kara Ariza Cooke- Truly Great Player

Kara Cooke enters the Hall of Fame  as a truly great player. She is a graduate of Penn Wood HS and University of Virginia.  She earned All American honors as a senior and led her high school team to the District I playoffs all four seasons.  She was a three sport athlete and awarded the Delco Athlete of the Year in 1994.  

At UVA, Cooke was a 3 time All American, earning 1st team honors as a defender in 1997 and 1998.  She led her team to the ACC title as a senior in 1998 and was named the MVP of the ACC Tournament that year.  She earned all-ACC honors in both 1997 & 1998 and was selected to play in the North-South All-Star Game. She was selected to the ACC’s 50th Anniversary Team in 2002.

On the International level, Cooke was a member of the 2001 and 2005 U.S. World Cup Teams, winning a gold (2001) and silver (2005) medal.  As a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team Program from 1997-2006, she also played on the U.S. Touring Team against Australia in 2000.  She was inducted to the U.S. Lacrosse, Charlottesville Chapter, Hall of Fame (2015),  U.S. Lacrosse Hall of Fame (2019) and the Delaware County  Athletes Hall of Fame (2022).  Kara and her family reside in South Carolina where she is the lacrosse coach at Hilton Head HS.

Marsha Florio –  Truly Great Player

Marsha Florio enters the Hall of Fame as a truly great player.  Marsha Florio began her athletics at  Penncrest High School and was a standout field hockey, basketball and lacrosse player for the Lions. She was part of the Penncrest lacrosse team that won the district/state championship in 1979 and then went on to a record-setting career at Penn State.

  When Marsha went to Penn State she was a significant contributor to both the field hockey and lacrosse teams.  She was a three-year starter for the Nittany Lions in field hockey and a four-year All-American in lacrosse. She still holds the program record for goals in a season (79) and a career (271), and points in a season (109) and a career (380).

Florio also still holds the NCAA Division I record for points in a game (17). She had nine goals and eight assists against Princeton in 1985. She also ranks sixth in career goals and 10th in career points.  Marsha’s intensity and excellence on her nationally ranked collegiate team was recognized when she was selected as a First Team All-American all four years. Marsha  also played lacrosse for the United States Under-21 team and the US National team for two years

Marsha segued into coaching and academic-athletic administration, supporting student athletes and more recently founded the Shift Executive Coaching corporation.  Marsha was inducted into the Media, Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2023.

Alex Kahoe – Truly Great Coach

Alex enters the Hall of Fame as a truly great coach.  Alex was an All-American high school goalie at the Agnes Irwin School. She continued her excellent goalkeeping at the University of Maryland, where the team was crowned the National Champions each of her 4 years.  Alex was named  ACC Rookie of the Year, twice selected NCAA Goalie of the Year and a three time All-American.

She played on Team USA from 1997 to 2005, and the World Cup Irish National Team in 2009. Even before her playing ended Alex began coaching. Several universities benefitted from her prowess as a coach.  First at her alma mater Maryland where she helped guide the Terrapins to an NCAA title. Alex then coached at the University of Pennsylvania tutoring two players to IWLCA Mid-Atlantic All-American recognition. She guided the University of Delaware Blue Hens to their first CAA Tournament appearance and then spent five years at Duke reaching the NCAA Tournament five times including three Final Four appearnces and the ACC Finals. Alex also coached the Canadian National Team to the 2013 World Cup Silver medal.
 
Alex took over a winless St. Joseph’s University program and led it to post season tournament successes seven consecutive seasons, including four Atlantic 10 semifinals, and the first Atlantic 10 Championship and NCAA Tournament appearance for the Hawks. Alex cultivated player talent into All-Conference and All-regional honors including many Rookies and Players of the Year. Wherever Alex has coached she has improved player performances, enriched player experiences, and guided the teams to success.
Alex has been honored by the Agnes Irwin and University of Maryland Halls of Fame as well as the US Lacrosse HOF. Alex continues to cultivate excellence out of her players as she enters her 11th season at St. Joseph’s University.

Brett Manney – Truly Great Player

Brett Manney enters the Hall of Fame as a truly great player.  His  lacrosse career is a testament to excellence, leadership, and dedication to the game at every level. A standout midfielder at Holy Ghost Preparatory School, he was a two-time team captain (2003 & 2004) and earned First-Team All-Northeast League and First-Team All-Area honors in his junior and senior seasons. His impressive high school career paved the way for collegiate success at the University of Delaware, where he captained the Blue Hens in 2008 and competed in the prestigious North-South Division I Collegiate All-Star Game.

Brett Manney transitioned seamlessly into the professional ranks, impacting field and box lacrosse. His Major League Lacrosse (MLL) career included stints with the Chesapeake Bayhawks and Rochester Rattlers, while his National Lacrosse League (NLL) career flourished as a defensive force. He played for the San Jose Stealth, Philadelphia Wings, and New England Black Wolves before becoming captain of the Albany Fire Wolves, a position he continues to hold. His leadership extended to the international stage, where he captained Team USA Indoor Lacrosse in 2015 and 2019.

Brett  has remained deeply involved in the game as a coach and mentor off the field. He has shaped the next generation of players through coaching roles at The Haverford School (2020-present), Episcopal Academy (2011-2015), and NXT Lacrosse Club (2011-2019). Additionally, his work with Philadelphia youth and high school lacrosse programs has further solidified his legacy as a player and ambassador.

With a career defined by leadership, high-level play, and a commitment to growing the game, Brett Manney’s induction into the Philadelphia Lacrosse Association Hall of Fame is a well-earned honor. His contributions on and off the field have left an enduring impact on lacrosse in Pennsylvania and beyond.

Bob “Mongo” Mongeluzzi – Truly Great Contributor

Bob Mongeluzzi enters the Hall of Fame for his extensive contributions to the game. Bob’s lacrosse journey began at Huntington High School on Long Island and continued at the University of Pennsylvania, where he earned an impressive seven varsity letters in both lacrosse and football. Under the mentorship of National Lacrosse Hall of Fame coach and visionary James “Ace” Adams, he became one of the game’s first long-stick midfielders (LSM), forever shaping the evolution of the position.

Bob continued his playing career at the elite USCLA level with the New Jersey Lacrosse Club. After settling in the Philadelphia area, he competed for the Eagle’s Eye Lacrosse Club for eight years before serving as its head coach for five. During his coaching tenure, he was honored twice as the USCLA Coach of the Year.

Bob’s playing career spanned over 40 years and included summer leagues on Long Island and in Philadelphia. He played in the renowned Vail Shootout for 20 consecutive years, earning titles in both the Men’s and Masters Divisions. Notably, he was a member of the 50+ team that captured the World Championship at the 2006 World Games.

In the Philadelphia lacrosse community, Bob’s long-standing involvement includes roles as head coach and board member of the Ashbee Youth Lacrosse Program, assistant coach with Duke’s Lacrosse Club, and assistant coach for the Lower Merion High School’s boys varsity team. He has mentored over 100 All-Americans and more than a dozen Team USA players. Nationally, Bob has served the sport with distinction through US Lacrosse, contributing on the Board of Directors and twice serving as a selector for the gold medal-winning Team USA Men’s squads in 1994 and 1998.

Bob’s dedication extends to supporting and building lacrosse programs across the nation. These programs include Harlem Lacrosse, the US Lacrosse Foundation, and the men’s programs at Penn and Drexel, as well as the Northwestern University women’s team.

He also founded the Dodging and Shooting Academy at Steelyard Sports – affectionately known as the “Mongo Sessions” now in its 8th year.  

Few individuals have had as profound and sustained an impact on the sport of lacrosse in the Philadelphia area as Bob “Mongo” Mongeluzzi. A true pioneer and passionate advocate, Mongo has devoted over half a century to playing, coaching, and advancing the game at every level—with distinction, innovation, and unwavering commitment.

Hank Resch – Truly Great Contributor

 William “Hank” Resch enters the Hall of Fame as a truly great contributor.  He has dedicated more than five decades to the growth and success of the game as a player, coach, and contributor.

Hank’s journey began as a player at William Penn Charter School, where he served as team captain in 1971. He continued his career at Yale University, earning Varsity honors and receiving Honorable Mention All-New England recognition in 1975. Following college, he competed at the highest levels of club lacrosse, playing for the Philadelphia Lacrosse Club from 1976 to 1980, participating in the prestigious Vail Lacrosse Tournament in 1997, and making numerous appearances at the Lake Placid Lacrosse Tournament between 1998 and 2015.

Hank’s impact on the sport extended beyond his playing days, as he became a highly respected coach and mentor. He began his coaching career as an assistant at William Penn Charter School (1976-1980) and Dickinson College (1981-1983). He later led various club teams, including Eagles Eye, Ashbee Youth Lacrosse, and MAB Paints, before dedicating 15 years to coaching the Spartan Youth Lacrosse Club (2000-2014). Since 2015, he has served as the head coach of Springfield Montco High School’s boys’ lacrosse team, continuing to shape and inspire young athletes.

Beyond coaching, Hank has been a tireless contributor to sport. A dedicated Philadelphia Lacrosse Association Board member since 1990, he played a key role in shaping the region’s lacrosse landscape. He served on the SEPYLA Competition Committee and has been instrumental in the Philadelphia Lacrosse Association Men’s Hall of Fame Committee since its inception, chairing the last five Hall of Fame selections. Additionally, he contributed to the national lacrosse scene as a USA Lacrosse Selection Committee member.

Hank’s outstanding service has earned him numerous accolades, including two-time United States Club Lacrosse Association Southern Division Coach of the Year (1996, 1999) and the 2017 United States Lacrosse Association Boys High School Lacrosse Man of the Year. He is also a distinguished William Penn Charter School Athletic Honor Society member.

With a career marked by excellence, leadership, and unwavering passion for sport, Hank Resch’s contributions to Pennsylvania lacrosse are legendary. 

Paul Stankewicz – Truly Great Coach

Paul Stankewicz enters the Hall of Famer as a truly great coach. Few coaches have left a legacy as profound as Paul Stankewicz, whose extraordinary career in Pennsylvania lacrosse spans over five decades.

As the head coach at West Chester Henderson High School from 1983 to 2021—following 14 years as an assistant coach, Paul dedicated 53 years to shaping young athletes and growing the sport. His impact on Pennsylvania lacrosse is undeniable, with a coaching record of 440-243, ranking him fourth all-time in state history.

Under his leadership, West Chester Henderson reached the pinnacle of success, capturing the 1973 State Championship. His teams also won 14 Suburban League titles and finished as state finalists twice. A true mentor, Paul developed 21 All-Americans, helping to elevate Pennsylvania lacrosse on a national level. His ability to instill discipline, teamwork, and a love for the game in his players made him a revered figure in the lacrosse community.

Beyond his high school coaching career, Paul extended his influence through numerous coaching and instructional roles. He was the head coach and director for Chester County Keystone Games teams and was a respected camp instructor at the University of Delaware’s Blue Hen Lacrosse Camp. In 2006, he played a pivotal role in the US Lacrosse National Senior Showcase, further showcasing his dedication to developing young talent at the highest levels.

Paul’s unwavering commitment to the sport, his players, and the lacrosse community has solidified his place among the all-time greats. His introduction to the Philadelphia Lacrosse Association Hall of Fame is a testament to his lifelong contributions to Pennsylvania lacrosse and his enduring legacy as a coach, mentor, and leader.
