Honoree Questions:
How do you define leadership? “Leadership is showing up for your team no matter what. Showing up for everyone and giving your all to your team, even when it’s hard. It’s having the strength to do what’s right and to help others find that same courage in themselves, and to be someone who leads by example, not for recognition, but because they care. I also think it’s the little things like picking up your teammates after a rough day, or just being someone in their corner that they know will always have their back. Sometimes it’s hard to show up and be that person, but leadership is about being reliable and committed, and being someone who will show up and do the hard things, and help their teammates learn to do so too.”
How do you balance academics, service, and athletics? “There are only so many hours in a day, and I try my best to make the most out of every one. That might mean planning out my whole week in advance and using every ounce of time to try to be productive. However, it also means leaving room to rest and be with my friends and family because that is truly what keeps me balanced and able to avoid burnout, and to keep up with such a rigorous schedule constantly. I find it easy to balance my athletic and academic commitments when I prioritize what is truly important to me and what I’m most passionate about, and go into everything with a positive mindset. That way, I am constantly looking forward to something and genuinely making the most of every opportunity I have to learn and to play.”
What are your future goals? “I plan to continue playing lacrosse at the collegiate level, and I look forward to furthering my studies in Aerospace Engineering with future hopes of exploring a career in Aerospace Engineering (defense).”
