In honor of the 30-year anniversary of the school’s first ECAC Men’s Division II Championship, the West Chester University Athletic Department and WCU Foundation invite all WCU Men’s Lacrosse Alumni to a celebration at Timothy’s in West Chester on Sunday, May 19th from 2-4 PM.

This is a free event but it is requested that everyone register to anticipate the number of attendees. Click here to register.

West Chester’s ECAC 1994 championship team
The Golden Rams, coached by Bob Brinton, were ranked 4th in the NCAA Polls and the top seed and host of the ECAC Tournament. First they defeated Bentley College, 17-6 on Friday, May 13th, 1994, for the school’s first postseason win and the program’s 100th all-time victory. Frank Collova had five goals and five assists while Pat McDonough and Greg McGee each had three goals.

In the title game, West Chester defeated a resilient LeMoyne College on Sunday May 15th, 15-14, for the championship. McGee, who either scored or assisted on three of WCU’s final four goals vs. LeMoyne, was named MVP. The Rams defense held LeMoyne to just one goal in the final 13 minutes. Goalie Mike Tabasso faced over 60 shots and recorded 15 saves after posting 13 stops in the semifinals.

West Chester won 9 of its last 10 games. The Rams also won the ECAC title in 1998.

That West Chester squad produced three successful Philly coaches: Avon Grove’s Eric Jackson (who won one PIAA championship and took his team to two title games, winning 226 games), Penn Charter’s McDonough (who recently retired after a long career coaching, winning 225 games) and Lower Merion’s Chet Laubach. Also, goalies Tabasso and Harry Oldham were later members for the Philadelphia Wings.

Also, assistant coach Pat Cullinan later became head coach and eventually was head coach at St. Joseph’s. he passed away after a fight with cancer in 2015 at the age of 58.
