Villanova has added two Philly graduate students – short-stick midfielder PJ Hewitt (Conestoga) and defenseman Brett Mallee (La Salle) – from Philly to its 2024-25 roster.

Hewitt starred at nearby Cabrini where he was a two-time USILA Honorable Mention Division III All-American (2023, 2024). In 2023 he collected 61 groundballs and 10 caused turnovers. This year, in Cabrini’s final season, he had 65 groundballs and 29 caused turnovers as well as 7 goals and 5 assists.
Hewitt was also a two-time captain at Cabrini, earning USILA All-American Recognition the past two seasons for the Cavaliers.
This spring Hewitt came back to Cabrini to start his Master’s in Education and helped the Cavaliers win their 25th straight conference title and make it to the NCAA second round with a roster of just 27 players. Hewitt follows the path of his father Pete Hewitt, who played at Villanova in the 1980s. Both Hewitts coach with Black Bear LC.
Mallee played in all 15 games this spring for Yale (11-4), collecting 12 groundballs and six caused turnovers as one of the Bulldogs’ top defenders off the bench. He played in 20 games in 3 previous seasons. Mallee was a key member of La Salle’s last PIAA championship team in 2019, earning All-Phillylacrosse.com First Team, All-American and All-EPLCA.
