Van Bastelaar’s OT goal lifts La Salle past Radnor, 10-9, in battle of top-ranked Class AAA teams

Paul Van Bastelaar scored in overtime to give host La Salle a 10-9 victory over Radnor Saturday in a thriller involving the top two teams in Class AAA boys in the PA State Rankings.

Max Wickersham – who had six goals and three assists – had the assist on the game-winner as the Explorers improved to 15-0 while three-time defending AAA champion Radnor fell to 12-4.

La Salle is ranked No. 1 in the state in Class AAA and No. 4 overall by Phillylacrosse.com. Radnor is ranked No. 2 in the state and No. 5 by Phillylacrosse.com.

La Salle dominated the faceoff X, winning 24 of 25 draws behind Stevie Davis (19/20) and Christian Peterman (5/5). But the Raptors rallied from a 5-1 first-period deficit and later tied it with 3 seconds left in regulation on a man-up goal by Tucker Graham (3G).

La Salle – which had taken a 9-8 lead on a last-minute goal by Shane Dominello – was facing the bulk of a 2-minute unreleasable foul to start overtime. But Davis won the OT faceoff and before Van Bastelaar (2G, 2A) scored the deciding goal.

Kessler Cox had three goals and an assist and Nate Lucchesi added a goal and three assists for Radnor. John Webb had 12 saves.
