Teddy Fenlin scored two goals and Keegan Dunn had 10 saves as visiting St. Joseph’s Prep held off Marple Newtown, 6-5, Saturday night
in a game featuring two teams ranked by Phillylacrosse.com that served as one of four games this weekend to benefit the 12th Annual Play for the As.
Also Saturday, Plymouth Whitemarsh toppled Pennsbury, 10-8, in another game to benefit Play for the As as Jack Cooper had four goals and an assist and Ben Backenstose scored twice for the Colonials (8-5), who have won six straight. For Pennsbury (7-7), Bradley Hill won 21 of 22 faceoffs.
The Play For the As effort was founded in 2013 as a way to support family caregivers of those suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and has raised over $143,000 during its first 11 years, with all funds distributed to families struggling to care for their affected loved ones. Alzheimer’s disease is a brain disorder that slowly destroys thinking and memory skills. It is currently the 6th leading cause of death in the U.S. (now affecting over 6 million Americans) and the 3rd leading cause of death among older people (behind only heart disease and cancer).
