PLA Golf Outing raises $25,000 to support lacrosse in Chapter Area

October 22, 2024 by Chris Goldberg

Phillylacrosse.com, Posted 10/22/24 – From Press Release

The 32nd Annual Philadelphia Lacrosse Association Golf Outing, held Monday at Philmont Country Club in Huntingdon Valley, featured 80 golfers and 56 corporate and individual sponsors. Participants were treated to colorful fall foliage and scenic vistas on a perfect day weatherwise. The event is expected to raise over $25,000.

Special guests, who spoke at the banquet included Jimmy Lynch, Athletic Director, for the Philadelphia School District (who spoke about the growth of the game at the elementary, middle and high school levels in Philadelphia), and Jessica Byers, head coach of the Cheltenham High School boys’ team and founder of both the boys’ and girls’ programs at CHS. Both guests acknowledged the help and support of the PLA. Also in attendance was Phillylacrosse.com Founder and Editor, Chris Goldberg, a recent Eastern PA Lacrosse Hall of Fame inductee.

The golf outing supports the PLA’s nonprofit mission, as a chapter of US Lacrosse, to promote the game in Philadelphia and Eastern Pennsylvania. Outing proceeds help the PLA to do the following:
*Support the PIAA Public Lacrosse League and youth and middle school programs in Philadelphia and beyond (including Eyekonz, Harlem, Little Quakers, and Black Women in Sport Foundation).
*Support the PLA Stick Stringing Project,’ which refurbishes and/or donates sticks for the benefit of programs in the City and Greater Philadelphia;
*Organize/underwrite the Eastern PA Lacrosse Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies and other award recognition banquets and events;
*Conduct/sponsor high school and youth coaches’ clinics; and
*Promote diversity and inclusion in the sport.
*The PLA Golf Outing this year was held in “In Loving Memory” of dear friends in the lacrosse community who passed away since the 2023 golf classic last October, including the following: Dan Dolphin, *Timothy A. Dowling, James ‘Jim’ Grimes, Salvino J. “Jim” Marra, Jr., Jacquelin ‘Jackie’ Pitts and Harry Price.
