The sister duo of Jaclyn Marszal and Steph Marszal guided the University of Delaware women’s lacrosse team to an 11-7 win against Lehigh on Friday in a season opener. Riley Gillin (Academy of Notre Dame) had a goal and two assists.
Jaclyn Marszal scored five goals, three of them occurring in the second half. She finished with seven points with a pair of assists. Marszal was joined by Lizzie Hsu, Keira Grant, Callie Drab, Morgan Gore, and Danielle Livornese with once score apiece.
The Hens scored four unanswered goals in the first five minutes of third period to give themselves a commanding 10-4 lead. In her first career start, Steph Marszal (1-0) denied 14 shots on goal.
Graduate student Gabby Schneider had three goals and an assist for Lehigh while senior Olivia Memeger (Strath Haven) had two goals and an assist and first-year Molly Snow chipped in two goals. Cassie Marte (Spring-Ford) collected ten draws controls, three caused turnovers and a groundball. Hayley Hunt (Penn Charter) made 11 saves for the Mountain Hawks.
Maryland 16, St. Joe’s 3
Hailey Russo (Clearview Regiknal-NJ) had two goals for Maryland in the opener.
Emma O’Neill had a goal and an assist for St. Joe’s.
