Tyler Morrell has been named head boys’ lacrosse coach at Delaware Military Academy.
Morrell – a former standout goalie at Episcopal Academy and Cabrini University – spent 7 years as an assistant coach with the former Team 302 and a season as an assistant at Williamson College of the Trades.
Morrell takes over a Seahawks squad that finished 7-9 last year and fell to eventually state champion Salesianum School in the first round of the Delaware tournament.
“I want to get the most out of each player,” said Morrell. “Everyone on the lacrosse field has something to offer somewhere and I’m going to do my best to dissect each player and get them to the position where they can make a most positive impact on the team as a whole.
“Luckily, I’ll be joining a group of already well-disciplined individuals so my goal is the be able to hone in these players’ abilities from day 1 and get the guys in the right spots and grow from there.”
Morrell, who played for the Duke’s lacrosse Club, wanted to credit former 302 director Jay Motta, former Cabrini coach and Hall of Famer Steve Colfer (now coach at Episcopal Academy) and Williamson Trade coach Jim DeRose for helping him become a head coach.
