After a record-breaking day in Maryland’s 12-11 2OT win at No. 19 Richmond on Saturday, grad student Luke Wierman (Henderson) has been named the Big Ten Specialist of the Week as well as part of the 10-man USILA Team of the Week.
With his 12th of 17 face-off wins on Saturday, Wierman became Maryland’s all-time program leader in face-off wins. He broke Andy Claxton’s record of 648 which had stood for over three decades. Wierman, who went 17-of-29 on the day, won the opening face-off in both overtime periods, setting the Terps up for a thrilling double-overtime win in their season opener. He also scooped a game-high 10 groundballs.
Maryland is back in action on Saturday, Feb. 10 when the Terps host Loyola (MD) in the team’s home opener. The game will begin at noon and will air on B1G+.
