Ty Gougler scored six goals to lead top-seeded Springfield-Delco to 10-8 victory Thursday over Radnor in the semifinals of the District 1 Class 3A tournament.

The win advanced the defending district champion Cougars (18-2) into the title game Wednesday vs. fourth-seeded Garnet Valley at Ridley HS (7 p.m.). Radnor (16-5), the three-time defending PIAA champion, will travel to third-seeded Downingtown East in the third-place game Wednesday at 3:45 p.m.

Springfield-Delco was ranked No. 3 in 3A in the latest PA State Rankings; Radnor was No. 2. These two teams met last June in the PIAA finals and in the District 1 final.

Springfield-Delco led, 4-2, Thursday after the first quarter and held a 6-4 advantage in the second period until Radnor tied it, 6-6. Brad Barber (3G) put the Cougars ahead, 7-6, with 7.2 seconds left in the half and Springfield never relinquished the lead.

Gougler (1 assist) made it 8-6 minutes into the second half and Connor Aughe padded the lead to 9-6 just 1:12 later, Radnor got within 9-7 early in the final period, but Springfield-Delco’s defense tightened and Gougler clinched it with a goal with 2:09 to play to make it 10-7.

Aaron Lucas won 14 of 21 faceoffs for the Cougars and Patrick Flaherty dished two assists.

For Radnor, Owen Knight scored three goals and Owen Smith had two goals and an assist while Kessler Cox scored twice and Sawyer Smith had a goal and two assists.
