Devon Prep won its first District 12 AA boys’ championship Thursday with a dramatic 6-5 overtime triumph over three-time defending champion Lansdale Catholic.
Declan Sullivan (2G) scored 1:16 into OT as the Tide rallied from two goals down in the final minute of regulation. Nico D’Alessandro (1A, 4GB) pulled Devon within 5-4 with 54 seconds to go off a Nick Walton assist and Eammon Donovan (3GB) scored with under 20 seconds to tie it.
Walton (1G, 4GB) also had the game-winning assist for the Tide, which had lost to LC in each of the past three title games.
Matt Pascale had five saves for Devon Prep while Kieran Crossan (1G, 1A, 3GB), Owen Raymond (5GB, 3CT), Harry Freind (3CT, 1GB), Ryan Kane (3GB, 2CT) and Joe Chomko (2GB, 2CT) were major contributors. Zach Sebra won six faceoffs.
Devon Prep is 16-5 and will meet District 3 No. 3 finisher Twin Valley in the first round of the PIAA AA tourney on Tuesday; LC is 12-8 and meets District 11 champ Allentown Central Catholic.
