Matt Traynor (Malvern Prep) had seven goals and an assist and TJ Malone (Haverford School) added three goals and four assists as host Penn State (ranked No. 10) throttled Cornell, 20-9, today at Panzer Stadium.

Luke Walstrum (Council Rock North) and Mac Costin (Haverford School) each added two goals and Will Peden (Malvern Prep) had a goal and three assists for the Nittany Lions (5-1), who won their fifth straight game.

Penn State jumped out to an early 4-0 lead with 9:08 left in the opening quarter off goals by Luke Mercer, Costin, Chase Mullins and Traynor. Cornell scored its first goal with 8:37 left in the quarter off a goal by Hugh Kelleher.

The Nittany Lions closed out the opening quarter with a pair of goals by Traynor to make it 6-1. Penn State fired four goals to open the second quarter off goals by Costin, Malone, Traynor and Peden to make it 10-1 with 4:41 left in the half.

Cornell then answered with three unanswered goals to narrow the Penn State lead to 10-4, but Malone closed the half with a goal with just 15 seconds remaining.

Jack Fracyon stopped 14 shots while holding Cornell to just eight goals to pick up his fifth straight victory.

Malone recorded his 200th career point off an assist he had off Traynor’s goal with 1:18 remaining in the first quarter. Malone becomes just the fourth Nittany Lions in program history to achieve 200 career points.

Delaware 16, Monmouth 7

Freshman John McCurry and sophomore Brendan Powers combined for eight goals to lead the Blue Hens, ending the Blue Hens’ two-game losing skid. They improve to 3-2 and 1-0 in CAA action as the Hawks fell to 3-3 and 0-1.

McCurry’s five goals led all scorers on the afternoon and added three ground balls to his ledger. Powers recorded his first-career hat trick while Mike Robinson and JP Ward each tallied two goals and extended their points streaks to 18 and 42 games, respectively. OJ Morris won 17 of 212 faceoffs. Louie Atkinson (Haverford School) scooped three groundballs and Matt Montgomery (Bayard Rustin) had one groundball to lead the defense.

Brendan Dundas (Springside Chestnut Hill Academy) scored twice for Monmouth.

Lehigh 12, Navy 10

The Mountain Hawks captured a victory to open up Patriot League play with a win. The Mountain Hawks (3-3 1-0 PL) bounced back after suffering a 14-8 loss to Villanova in the home opener on March 2.

Lehigh also knocked off a Midshipmen team that was coming in with a lot of momentum as they opened up league play last week with a 16-9 victory over Boston University. Navy is now 3-3 (1-1 PL). The Mountain Hawks have also won the last seven meetings, which is the longest Lehigh winning streak in the series since the two teams first met in 1910.

Lehigh’s 12 goals were scored by seven different players. Andrew Kelly (La Salle) tied his career-high of four goals, and Grant Rodny scored the first hat trick of his career. Quinn Armstrong, Scott Cole, Dakota Eierman, Brian Mullen and Hunter Polonkey all netted one goal apiece.
